Article: Chris Mullin's First 30 Days

Wish it were a Mets game instead. As long as the Yanks lose I will be happy.

And for a nationally televised night game ... not a Wednesday matinee. Ideally, a Harvey game, when the place is filled and the fans are pumped up. No reason why it shouldn't happen, given the location of the university. Then again, we are dealing with the Wilpons, aren't we?

The yankees win. Thhhheeeee yankees wiin

I've been a Yankees fan, since about 1958 or 1959, and I have always believed and said that John Sterling is the worst Yankee announcer that I have ever heard, no matter if it's on TV or radio. He's so bad, he should work for the Mets. Minor League announcer for a minor league team and league! I'm a Yankees fan, and 27 World Championships means we have a right to be proud! :cheer:

Couldnt work for the Mets...on field performance aside...Mets broadcast teams have always been a level above Yankees dating back to 60s

I actually didn't mind him his first few years. Somewhere along the way he just lost his mind. The home run calls with the corny phrases (i.e. an A-Bomb for A-Rod) are beyond awful.

Even worse than his Yankee companero Susyn Waldman?

To keep this tied into SJU - before I veer away a bit - announcing for the Yankees and St John's
Bob Shepard...
For those old enough - Mel Allen, Red Barber, of course Phil Rizzuto, Frank Mesner...

No she takes the cake. I miss Phil Rizzuto calling the games and doing his "Holy Cow" Money Store commercials on WPIX.

I remember Bob Shepard doing PA for SJU Club football.

It is high, it is far, it is caught at the wall. Honestly I haven't heard that call this year, now it's a regular hr call. Maybe someone told him not to do that call anymore.
I remember hearing it is gone, now he stopped at 2nd, what is going on here. Oh it must have bounced over the wall for a ground rule double.
I mean wtf how does he keep his job?

maybe his regular HR call is just due to the fact that fly balls in that park are almost always homers. That one Mets win this year, I swear, we hit three "home runs" that wouldn't hit a warning track in most little league parks.

Amazing how many people who hate Sterling are able to quote his calls. I, too, think he is God-awful, and an embarrassment, but he gets the attention that he is seeking. Just last night, the sports reporter on the radio was talking about the Yankees home runs and used the phrase "Tex message."

I do like those calls, and quote them often, only because it means the Yankees did something good.

However, radio play-by-play is about technicality, and that is where Sterling falls short. I have the complete 2000 and 2009 World Series on DVD (MLB released official copies of them, so no copyright violations, lol), and the best part of it is that you can synch in the Yankees radio call with the video. That's where all of Sterling's mistakes get exposed. It's actually highly entertaining.
