Are more people searching for Rutgers basketball?

Saw Andy Glockner share this today - it's from a few months ago and from a Rutgers blog, and wanted some opinions on this.

Basically, according to Google insight searches, fewer people search for St. John's basketball than they do for Rutgers or Seton Hall? Apparently using the dot in front of St. in St. John's is a different set of results, but the apostrophe doesn't change things...

That can't possibly be true. St. John's has quite a few fans. Not as many as Cuse or Duke, but the base has to match or exceed the numbers of Seton Hall and Rutgers. Interest in St. John's hoops has been pretty high, and the Garden saw a lot of fans last year. Any idea what's up with these results?

Thanks.

People already know where to find SJU basketball websites. Redmen.com is one of the older fan sites around. Rutgers has had hope for exactly 1 year. No surprise people are googling them and wondering where they came from...

I don't know about the rest of you on here, but I always like to check out an oppoent's message board before a game against St. John's. I always like to see what opposing fans are saying about us. I don't know the address for those sites, so I use google to find it. No need for Google WRT St. John's because I know all the sites.

. Any idea what's up with these results?

1. There's only one search for st johns, but there's a number of variations for SJU searchers - saint john's, st. john's, st john's, redmen, red storm. There's only one Rutgers.

2. The Rutgers stats got a spike last March due to the publicity around "Rutgers basketball suffers a nightmare ending due to referee mistake"

http://goo.gl/VvjQd

and an earlier huge spike (2007) around the IMUS nappy headed story.http://goo.gl/Cmf8z

3. Seton Hall spiked due to Booby's arrest and firing and Robert Mitchell's arrest.

If you look at the stats and restrict them them to 12 months all three are about the same.http://goo.gl/Bj5wz

So essentially, when it comes to the stats, bad news is good news too  SHu getting more spikes on the Kyle debacle.

Good points. Just a curiosity to me. MCNPA might have a point as well - the St. John's fanbase know their boards. Or at least, the board they go to.

Andy Glockner has too much time on his hands.
Not Glockner. He just tweeted it. The Rutgers On the Banks blog wrote a long piece about it.

Apologies. I take it back.

But the person on the Rutgers blog has too much time on their hands.

It"s Rutgers. Did you expect anything worthwhile from those fans?

Also, I bet Rutgers had massive spike around the student suicide last year as well.

How much would you like to bet? Because it's unlikely that anyone other than Fred Hill's mother googled the phrase "rutgers basketball" when they heard someone jumped off the GW Bridge.
