If you ain't with us now, don't try to be with us in the future.

If there was one positive to take away from today's game, it was that Carnesecca Arena was pretty darn close to full. Despite the way this season has gone, it was truly heartening to see so many "with us now".

And no booing that I could detect so what is he referring to? One dope on twitter?

I assume he's referring to the clowns running amok in the online boards, especially over on Johnyjungle. Some of the posters just don't know how to have any reasonable perspective... They just run their yaps. It's sad.

I really feel for the players but this season is really tiring. I had to skip today's game to go watch Ponds play. The game was so much fun and I realized you can enjoy basketball.

He would already know what is being said on a dopey fan website?

He's definitely not referring to yesterday's crowd at Carnesecca Arena - the tweet is from Friday.

And I def agree, @bamafan - no booing at all. Seems our fans definitely understand that it's not about this year, and while no one can be happy with a blowout at home, we are all collectively willing to look at the big picture and the promise of much, much better years ahead.

I think the near sell out may have been more a result of the hundreds of well deserving academic all-Americans(and numerous family members) that were in attendance, and that the school honored throughout the game. I have no doubt that boosted attendance quite a bit.

There were also quite a few Butler fans, considering that the game was at CA and not MSG. They were very quiet and respectful but they were identifiable by the Butler gear they were wearing.

If you were at the game you would have seen that the scoreboard ran through a long list of grammar schools and organizations that were at the game which helped to account for the near sellout. You would have also seen that quite a few of the primo seats in the lower tier, which are season ticket holders, were empty. Just sayin' B)

I have to disagree, at least a bit. I saw the halftime awards, and I saw the list of schools and of course days like yesterday with big ceremonies will always boost attendance. But I also know that despite the score, the building did not empty right after halftime. And I can also say, as someone who was fortunate enough to sit in the lower bowl for yesterday's game, the seats and sections near me didn't have that many empty chairs.

So for me, it still is what it is: It was a pretty full house for a team and program that's best days are ahead of it - and no one within ear shot of me was booing at all, upset with the kids at all (other than the usual discussions about protecting the ball better, improving decision making, shot selection and other random observations that all of us here make at virtually every game), and certainly not a single person complaining about the coaching. I took it all as a good sign of the overall smart, big picture view the vast majority of us are taking. Could this just have been apathy on the part of a big crowd that was there for something other than the game? Sure, of course - but I think that's short selling ourselves as a fanbase.

Agree with you. We've long criticized the athletic dept for not doing enough to promote our games. I think they deserve kudos for yesterday's turn out, regardless of how they went about nearly filling CA to capacity.

Similarly, I recently went to an FAU - Old Dominion game
There were about 1,000 people in the stands in the first half
At halftime, they recognized fall student-athletes for academic excellence
During the second half, they had about 300 people left in the stands
By the way, every one of the 4,000 (or so) seats in the arena have "backs" to them
I think the chiropractor lobby is paying SJU not to install them upstairs in CA

My point is that for an on campus Saturday afternoon game against a quality BE opponent we had to sell, probably at massive discounts, countless seats to grammar schools and other organizations. And we still couldn't sell CA out. And there were plenty of empty seats in the primo season ticket holder, donor, backed seat lower tier. So kudos to SJU for getting fannies in the seats, shame on the "fans" for not coming out.

I don't care how they got people into the building. 8 years ago, you couldn't give tickets away for a game like this. Nice to see. Even students came out.

Saturday was my first time on campus this year and my wife and I were I impressed with both the size and the enthusiasm of the crowd ... At least in the beginning of the game.

We sat in front of a group of Butler fans and found them to be friendly and very understanding of our situation...considering the score I thought it showed class.

As an aside, can anyone tell me where the Coach Lapchick statue is?

Our very own JerseyShoreJohnny was the driving force towards this fundraising effort. JSJ is a jewel to St John's and he could probably update you. Maybe someday there will be a statue of JSJ on campus

Don't know that it's completely fair to criticize the fans in he primo season ticket seats because their seats were empty. I have to be honest, I've had a hard time giving away seats(especially at CA) to the games that I couldn't make. And frankly, with kind of year we're having , it's not surprising. I think by and large we as fans have done a great job supporting the team during this tough year.

I'm in the cheaper primo seats (non seat backs) Our section seems fuller than the seat back section all the time, but i really can't tell. Maybe we are just wider. :)
