Goff's fundraising goes back to his days as AD at Division II Bowie State University in Maryland, plans to connect New York and St. John’s in various ways. The first is through basketball and Carnesecca Arena, which Goff would like to either renovate or develop entirely from scratch.

“That’s one of the priorities that we’re looking at,” Goff said of the 5,600-seat complex. “And whether that’s to do something to renovate the arena, or build something new, we’re just trying to go through it all, to self-study right now.
I would love to add seating, because I think the more games we could keep here, the better home crowd we’d have, the better home court advantage we’d have, which equals more wins… And I’d love to play our big games in [Madison Square Garden]. That’s my ultimate goal.”

Got to keep Madison Square Garden. If we think we have trouble now recruiting, without MSG we will be doomed.

Related, have heard from a few folks that we will play 5 BE regular season games at MSG this year. Nothing official, but just sharing.

That's only 1 less than this year.

We only played six this year including the Xavier game on a Sunday afternoon that nobody showed up to. We had good crowds at Carnasecca for Butler and Creighton. I don't think that you can do much to Carnasecca to make it nice. Kind of like putting lipstick on a pig.

The last 3 years we have been playing only 6 home games (Not including Holiday Festival) This year we will have 6 - 5 Big East and 1 vs. Duke.

Two years ago we played 5 B.E. Games and Syracuse so 6 is pretty common.

Brand new or huge refurbishing decades overdue. I like Goff's ambition, hope it comes to fruition.

In the meantime, I'd like to see him bring some closure to the "missing" Joe Lapchick statue and see that it's placed directly in front of the current CA. It's a disgrace to keep it buried somewhere.

SJU has had some great successes on the basketball court in the the past but I go back a long time and I don't recall a better combination of President and AD as far as the basketball program is concerned. The commitment to spend money has never been greater.

They Know success on the Basketball court means success in Fundraising and new enrollment. The better the team is the better the school will become.
We have needed a new building for a long time. I seem to remember a number of years ago now President Trump was in discussions with the school about a new basketball facility. We need to do something! Every time I get back from a game I need a week in traction.

I take it you're referring to the proposed Trump Arena, which no doubt would have been home to Kushner Court. :)

You are not going to like the reason I have heard for the delay since the last time i posted on this topic and informed about the lack of agreement on where to place the statue. Apparently there is a deeper issue than location for the delay. Forgive me for not remembering if it is the board of governors or trustees which has a number of priests on it and has been responsible for the delays, but word has it that a number of priests are unhappy that a sports figure is being honored with the first statue on campus ahead of a religious figure. Not a good look to say the least.

Unbelievable! Then again ...

With a statue of Ivanka out front.

I met Anton briefly and found him to be a bright and impressive individual.

I believe that St. John's got his hire right.
