Andrew Young, C - TEXAS A&M

Here is a piece on Young, per The Wolfpacker.com (byway of Rivals).... Here are a couple of excerpts, as well.

"He is 6-9 and has a 3.8 grade-point average," Spiering said. "He runs and jumps very well. His skill level is very high. He can shoot it real well and dribble it. He is really good with his back to the basket and is really good facing up. He is so bouncy and highly competitive, so his motor never stops. He is kind of the whole package."

Young leads the California junior college ranks in both scoring and rebounding.

"That is very hard to do in California with 93 junior colleges," Spiering said. "With schools like San Francisco and schools like San Jose, and then all the Los Angeles schools, so he can play. He has the full package with the academic side.

Between Young and the "mystery Recruit" ( easier to spell than his name, lol), we wouldn't have to worry about grades. Both seem to excel in the classroom.

LOL I guess we can call him, Zena. You're right.... We wouldn't have any worries about them being eligible. We're thisclose from being a pretty solid team a season from now. Hopefully, Lavin and staff can seal the deal on these kids.

(for the uninformed to wit: me) what is this?

It's supposed to be a link. LOL I don't know why the entire link wasn't highlighted. Maybe, you can copy the link and paste it in the drop box on your PC.

Please, when I was in grammer school we had blackboards (this was way after the slate and hickory stick era), pencils and the teachers could slap us anywhere they wanted…copy the link and paste and drop it on your PC??? By the time I was in high school (Brooklyn Tech) I used a slide rule; in college our computer was the size of a rich man's bathroom and we had to use punch cards - about 300 to say "Go St. Johns!" etc. and so forth as the good Wizard of Oz would say…why my dear man you under-estimate yourself...

Oh wait, my college daughter and high school son convinced me to switch to Apple which I'm glad I did.

I needed a better answer MJD.

all the best

PS even though we may get zero more wins, I like this team and the direction we are headed.

Asked about his best basketball skills, Young offered "my ability to pass out of the post and I can score." He elaborated with "I've watched film so I understand about defensive rotations from the strong side and the weak side and how to skip a pass against defenses."

It was apparent watching Young during the Foothill Summer Slam tournament in July that he possesses a remarkable level of court vision. He would receive passes down low, check for cutters and approaching double teams and either go up for a score or wing a pass to an open teammate. He oozed confidence, as if the game was advancing in slow motion for him, similar to what the best quarterbacks display in football.

What he didn't offer among his strengths is his ability to run the floor. Yes, he is big and strong but also glides up and down the hardwood.

MPC coach Blake Spiering said it's easy to see why Young is an attractive recruit.

"He wasn't recruited out of high school, and then he went to another junior college and didn't have a great experience," Spiering said. "He came back and sat out last year, and has really bought into our culture and philosophy here. He has really developed as a player and he's been super academically."

Young leads the California junior college ranks in both scoring and rebounding.

"That is very hard to do in California with 93 junior colleges," Spiering said. "With schools like San Francisco and schools like San Jose, and then all the Los Angeles schools, so he can play. He has the full package with the academic side.

Yet, even Young did not know what he wanted after spending an uneventful first year at Cabrillo College, choosing to transfer last year, redshirt and improve himself academically first.

Last year at this time Young was not honing his basketball skills or even on a hardwood. Instead he rechanneled his energy towards the classroom, regaining his eligibility and getting his personal life in order.

"I had a 1.8 GPA after my freshman year at Cabrillo,'' Young said. "It wasn't the environment for me. I went back to school at MPC and got my GPA up to 3.7. I refocused my thoughts and energy.''

He's being recruited by several schools but we are not mentioned in any of the post. What's up?

I too wonder where all the info comes from...... perhaps wjshfull thinking on the part of a few fans?? Usually, when we were involved with a player, it was all over the sites...... there were and are very little surprises.

This is totally untrue. Once again, It is not wishful thinking. It is confirmed by people close to the program that these are the kids that the coach is recruiting. Don't know why you need some gazette reporting it. Btw, much of JC recruiting isn't highly publicized.

I was gonna say something similiar to that you typed, MCN. You said it for me. I'm wondering why he's here, considering this is "Yesmen.com."

I'm hoping sooner or later he's sent to his resting place on bigeast boards. History dictates... ;)

Wait, did I violate a site policy here by questioning the source? Oh wait, I forgot, it's all part of MCNPA's plan to get me off the site... Unreal. I know that MCNPA is a mods favorite here, but if one were to look at these interactions objectively, one would see that he seems to want to attack me on a regular basis. But I guess that the rules of the site don't apply to all. And please stop calling me Realfan, while I do aspire to being one.
