Amir's debut

Amir started his first game this week and went 2/3 of an inning, allowing one hit, one walk and a hit a batter. Don't know if he was injured, but it's odd that a starter only goes 2/3 of an inning without be roughed up.

I don't think its that odd for a rookie League game to have every pitcher go 2-3 innings. Considering this was his first game in a couple years not a big deal IMO.

I think it was said Amir's last game was either Soph or Jr year of HS. If I invested a couple mil in a young arm I'm not screwing around with him. Especially since I know he's going back to college to play bball

Still it's not like he didn't prepare prior to playing in the Rookie League. In the past three years that I have watched teams play in the Arizona Rookie League no one pitches two thirds of an inning unless an injury occurs.

So his pitch count is 19 pitches?

The other team had a bunch of pitchers go two innings. I'm not the manager but if there was an injury we would have heard already. If anything it should speak volumes to those who are worried about Amir leaving so soon for MLB. He has a long way to go.

It does seem a bit unusual, but none of us know the context of the game, his pitch count, etc. There was a helluva'lot of activity for 2/3' s of an inning! A hit, a walk, two SB's against Garrett, a run, two on when he was pulled, and a hit-batter.

Maybe the manager jus didn't like the way things were going for a kid that was ony scheduled to throw an inning or two?

Tonight Amir started his 3rd game of the season, again going 2 innings, striking out 3 (all swinging) while allowing 4 runs, all unearned, 2 singles and a homer, and did not walk anyone. His team is in last place in their division with a 4 - 14 record going into tonight's game.

How can he give up a HR but it not be an earned run?

Actually I think I figured it out. Anyone know for certain?

Any runs scored by an inning that is prolonged by an error are unearned. Example if with two outs and no one on base a batter reaches first on an error and then the next three hitters each hit a home run, then all four runs scored would be considered unearned.

I know it's rookie ball which is bottom of the barrel but you'd think they'd have these kids throw some simulated games to build stamina before just throwing them out there. Amir is a strong minded kid but especially in a sport like baseball where 90% of pitchers are headcases wouldn't you think they'd want players to gain a little confidence rather than pitch 2 innings and know no matter what that's all they'd have in the game? Doesn't seem like the best method but what do I know.

How do you know they didn't have him throw simulated game, just asking? Also heard the expression that most place kickers are head cases but where did you come up with 90% of pitchers are head cases?

I was being facetious but have you ever seen a baseball game before? Players in general are superstitious(especially pitchers) and are mentally fighting themselves constantly. And I was assuming a kid who throws 2/3 inning or 2 innings max as a starter, has not thrown a real simulated game

Superstitious, have you ever seen David Wright hit, watch him un-velcro his right glove, un-velcro his left glove, and that is after every pitch. It's rough being a Met fan.

Nomar popularized that
