Am I Missing Something?

Toward the end of the game I was shocked to see Obepka at the top of the key playing defense while Greene or Pointer were battling for position against one of the Rutgers post players. Fortunately no pass was made down low. It happened again on the Rutgers next offensive play. Please tell me Lavin wasn't responsible for having Obepka out of position on defense.

It's been happening all year.

Yep, only thing I disagree with is that Greene does not battle for position...not that he should be in that position but he plays very soft on defense, wanders, and avoids contact

... If you told me Rutgers would shoot 40% from field, 33% from 3, 64% from the line, we outrebound them, more assists, manageable 10 turnovers, and held Mack and Carter to 9 and 8 points........I would say we won.

But of course I neglected the part where we shot 35% from the field, 20 from 3 and 56 from the line :)

Bad FG shooting percentages can happen on any given night. (Look at Duke's 3-point shooting against us two years ago.) But 56% on FTs is unforgivable. Bob Valvano was right: Every time Obekpa went to the line, it was the equivalent of a turnover. And why D'lo has gone from an excellent FT shooter to a horribly inconsistent one is a mystery ... one that I hope gets solved soon.

Harrison was 80% FT shooter last year. He's 78% this year. Far from horribly inconsistent.

Wasn't aware of the 78% line, Moose. Maybe my perception that he's been inconsistent of late is based on his missing a few free throws against Nova and then his (dare I use the word) inconsistency in the later stages of last night's game. It's just that last year, he seemed like money in the bank when he went to the line in critical situations, but not so this season.

I think its a byproduct of when he gets to the line we chalk it up as automatic. Yes he hits 2 FT's last night different mood today. Oh and the pitiful missed goaltend.

I was pissed when i saw the goaltend live, but the replay actually looked like a clean block. Could have gone either way. Not nearly as bad as the one we got away with against cinci.

Thought the rule was once it hits the glass its goaltend? They both did.

Also there was offensive goaltend that looked dicey on an Austin Johnson putback.

During Villanova game, Bob Valvano explained that off the glass is not goaltending if the ball is below the rim...not that this was the case on these two

How much room is there on the glass below the rim? Can't be much?

Agree..thought the same thing...guess they had to put some definition around the rule...

"Goaltending" rules are the biggest bullshit rules in the game of basketball! Lew Alcindor retired years ago and Wilt Chamberlain is dead. If a defensive player can block any shot....without fouling a player...it would make the game more exiting. It certainly would change defensive strategies! LOL!

Yeah, games with scores of 7-5 & 9-6 would be very exciting!

You must have missed the Duke-Clemson game! Clemson=10 points in the first half.
Hey, it's not like I am asking the teams jump ball after every score! Back in those days players could not jump high enough to be called for goaltending. LOL!
Frankly, I see no reason why the NCAA rules should not be identical to the NBA rules for the most part.
