Am I Missing Something?

Toward the end of the game I was shocked to see Obepka at the top of the key playing defense while Greene or Pointer were battling for position against one of the Rutgers post players. Fortunately no pass was made down low. It happened again on the Rutgers next offensive play. Please tell me Lavin wasn't responsible for having Obepka out of position on defense.

It's been happening all year.

I get the frustration, I really do. But if we begin to pick out every missed assignment, or knuckleheaded play, we will have a slew of long and crazed threads.

You think Rutgers may have screwed up last night as well? Sure they did. But because of our abysmal free throw shooting, we lost and all of our mistakes are highlighted.

If we hit a few more free throws, no one is having this discussion.

Picking out every bonehead play is fun though. Gets me thru the day at work.

Your right Rutgers did screw up a lot last night. But when we have the better players, better coaches, higher paid staff, home court yadda yadda we should walk out with a W, as ugly as it may be.

If you told me Rutgers would shoot 40% from field, 33% from 3, 64% from the line, we outrebound them, more assists, manageable 10 turnovers, and held Mack and Carter to 9 and 8 points........I would say we won.

But of course I neglected the part where we shot 35% from the field, 20 from 3 and 56 from the line :)

Bad FG shooting percentages can happen on any given night. (Look at Duke's 3-point shooting against us two years ago.) But 56% on FTs is unforgivable. Bob Valvano was right: Every time Obekpa went to the line, it was the equivalent of a turnover. And why D'lo has gone from an excellent FT shooter to a horribly inconsistent one is a mystery ... one that I hope gets solved soon.

It happened on back to back plays in the 1st half. I think Felix got called for a foul on the 2nd and got yanked. Because it was Felix fail he was guarding a guy 6 inches and 60lbs heavier. The use of Felix has been baffling this year.

I agree with Moose. As to Felix he was yanked because of a nonsense goal tend going to the rim after the ball traveled about 8 feet in the air.It was just showing off how high he could jump. He was in his own world as has been true of all of our people on occasion.

Harrison was 80% FT shooter last year. He's 78% this year. Far from horribly inconsistent.

Wasn't aware of the 78% line, Moose. Maybe my perception that he's been inconsistent of late is based on his missing a few free throws against Nova and then his (dare I use the word) inconsistency in the later stages of last night's game. It's just that last year, he seemed like money in the bank when he went to the line in critical situations, but not so in recent games.

I think its a byproduct of when he gets to the line we chalk it up as automatic. Yes he hits 2 FT's last night different mood today. Oh and the pitiful missed goaltend.

I was pissed when i saw the goaltend live, but the replay actually looked like a clean block. Could have gone either way. Not nearly as bad as the one we got away with against cinci.

Thought the rule was once it hits the glass its goaltend? They both did.

Also there was offensive goaltend that looked dicey on an Austin Johnson putback.

I thought you couldn't hit it off the glass if the ball was above the rim. Going up, down.. doesn't matter. I thought the rule was just if it's above the rim you can't smack it off the glass?

They changed the rule in college. you can get it off the glass, just has to be below the rim or something like that. Dont agree with the rule change though.

And dont get me started on Austin Johnson :) He did the same thing to us that Fab Melo did two years ago in the BE tourney. Probably wont score 10 points again all season.

Felix Balamou is the most naturally gifted athlete on this team. With coaching, he will be a handful by the time he is a senior.

Point in original post well taken.

Time and time again Obekpa is out there handling the ball when he should not be - particularly towards the end of the game..

Needs to be corrected.

I don't think CO should be shooting 16ft. jump shots either, He should be down low. Not handle the ball, he is too easy to pluck clean.

Harrison's foul shots look flat to me.
