We need to remember too, who flew those Planes that Murdered nearly 343 FDNY Fireman . Dozens of NYPD, PA police , etc And , over 4000 innocent people in the Towers , Pentagon , and Shanksville , Pa
And , the thousands who have died from the toxic debris in the decades since .

I will never forget flying into MacArthur with Mrs. OF a few weeks after 9/11, getting our rental car and taking back streets and roads to Queens. Every little town and burg had memorials out and billboards about people who were lost. That is the most sorrowful and humbling experience of my life.

Thanks for posting this. I never knew Paul M but I knew this was his site, and always respected his decision to take a pause on posting this day. I know shutting it down and bringing it back up took active site management that I don’t expect anyone else to manage, but your post is a reminder of the roots of this site and a testament to most of the poster’s heres understanding and perspective.
9/11/2025. while wearing one of my many 9/11 tshirts, i went to two 9/11 remembrance events. the first one was at the state college of floridas venice campus. there were two speakers. one speaker was a full bird marine colonel, who was at the pentagon on 9/11. before the event i talked a while with a marine corporal with five years of service. born after 9/11. there was about 40 in the crowd for the 15 minute event, almost all were college students, all were probably born before 9/11. presentation of the colors were done by the venice high school JRROTC. taps ended the ceremony.
I then went to patriots park for another ceremony. many speakers and many prayers. one of the better speakers was a retired, 30 year, us army SGM rachel arin. a former intelligence officer. she was inspirational, insightful, and very well spoken. before the event, i spoke at length with a 75 year old brooklyn electrician. he was on the 15th floor when the plane hit. his firm lost 16 brothers. the internet reported the crowd at 200. i thought the crowd was much larger than that. presentation of the colors were done by the venice police and fire rescue honor guards. a live trumpet ended the 40 minute ceremony.
at night i went to my monthly civil war forum. parallels were drawn between a divided nation of the 1860s and now.
this morning i played boxscore berta with the yankee games of wednesday and thursday.

I was on the overnight hotline for families on 9/12. The one that shook me the most was the call from a grandfather wanting to find out how to adopt his grandchildren as he was sure his daughter who worked for Cantor Fitzgerald had not survived. My younger son, in his first job after graduating McGill was working for the New York Blood Center. With his boss away on vacation, he was driving the emergency vehicle to move blood supply as needed. When he called about 11:30 PM there were some tears, and then a level of rage that I had never seen in him before.
Every Sept. 11th we go down to the memorial in Weehawken NJ on the banks of the Hudson where 60K people were evacuated by ferry on that day.
Fewer and fewer people show up each year.
But my wife and I always go. And in recent years we've begun bringing the kid because she has to know what happened here.
