(AdvoCare Invitational) Oregon St., Thur. Nov. 23, 2p, ESPNU, 970 AM

Oregon St. looks like a big team-4 guys 6'8"; one each 6'10, 6'11", 7'.
Going to be interesting.

Picked 7th in the Pac 12 pre-season poll. We don't have many good OOC games this year, so we need every win we can get.

My favorite basketball team, playing in my favorite vacation destination. So glad that I'm not down there, as I would have been forced to choose between one or the other. Not a choice I was looking forward too.

Statement from #Mizzou:

Michael Porter, Jr. will undergo surgery on Tuesday, Nov. 21, in Dallas, Texas. The procedure, a microdiscectomy of the L3-L4 spinal discs, has a projected recovery time of three-four months and will likely cause him to miss the remainder of the season.R

It will be interesting to see how we defend Oregon State. Lots of size. If I read it right, they do not shoot the 3 well at all.

That stinks. It takes one potential NCAA tourny team off our schedule. I wonder how this will affect his draft status or if he comes back another year.

Big news out of Missouri: Michael Porter Jr. out for year with back surgery. No reason St. John's can't get to final down in Orlando now. Start with Oregon State Thursday. #sjubb

i saw two different start times for thursday, anyone know for sure, i have to plan my holiday around the game!

Looks like the head coach's son, Tinkle, is their best player, while assistant coach Thompson has 2 sons starting for O St. Sounds like a family affair.

Guys who appear to start, or at least get the most minutes are 6'10", 6'8", 6'4", 6'5", and 6'4".

Hopefully Ponds gets his outside stroke back in this tournament.

Heading down tonight with the family. Looking forward to the tournament. We are all owed at least 2 wins, after losing all three games last year in the Bahamas. Should be fun...

Sorry to hear the news about Michael Porter Jr Hope his rehab goes well and he come back and realizes his NBA dreams

Nice opportunity to play well, grab a couple of wins away from home & gain momentum & confidence prior to tough games out west V Grand Canyon & ASU. To me a difference maker re post season play will be winning on the road in conference. These out of conference road games could be solid foundational pieces in that regard.

I'm a first time poster & new member, although I have enjoyed the site for many years (since Omar Cook & Willie Shaw's freshman year, I believe). As a lifelong St. John's & Knick fan, I have learned to look at the glass as always half full, so my posts will generally lean towards the positive side. I am cautiously optimistic regarding this year. Below are my impressions on this year's squad, for what it's worth after 4 game sampling:

Ponds - our most talented player, great range & rebounding from guard position, want him on foul line at end of games;
Simon - looks to be team's most valuable, if not its best, player, does most everything well and expect shooting to improve with time;
Lovett - defensive intensity looks turned up from last year, streaky good shooter, trust him with big shots;
Ahmed - can be a lock down defender this year, needs to Improve foul shooting;
Owens - Love what this guy does for team when he Is playing, needs to average 24 minutes plus for us this year and stay away from silly reach fouls;
Clark - very solid role player/glue guy, glad to have him and hope he stays 2 years
Yakwe - need him to give us 14-15 minutes in Big East play, hoping he can use early part of season to regain confidence he had as a freshman - capable of solid defense, shot blocking & rebounding if he does;
Trimble - expect he will be solid 4 year role player, tempering expectations in year one;
Alibegovic - always gives 100%, may give us an unexpected lift in one or two league games.

Looking for us to take at least 2 out of 3 in Advocare. Oregon's State's skilled big men scare me a bit.

Total coincidence, but heading to Orlando Sunday afternoon with my wife and 4 year old twin daughters (for their first-ever trip to Disney). We moved to DC a couple of years ago, so I no longer have many opportunities to go to a game -- and will definitely take advantage of the situation by going Sunday night if the team makes it that far. I assume tickets are available on-line and/or if I take my chances with a scalper. Please send a PM if you're looking to sell an extra ticket, or will otherwise be at the game. I imagine that there won't be many of us. It's highly unlikely that my wife will join me (as obviously can't leave our girls by themselves -- and she's a Dukee (no comments necessary)), so I would love to meet-up with some fellow fans!! Not sure who will have a larger grin -- my girls when they see the Magic Kingdom for the first time Monday morning or me when I see my Johnnies due to some fortuitous planning.
