He was manhandled under the basket.

To his credit he did take about 5,000 charges today.

Gift hasn't found any consistency. He double-doubles vs UK but then tanks vs Nova. He'll certainly take on more of a supportive role next year if we bring in a few decent big guys. He has ability, but needs to work in the offseason on positioning, footwork etc.

I was at the Garden yesterday. It was a rough game and Nova had a monster under the basket along with Pinckston. They manhandled SJU as the difference in rebound stats shows. Gift was in there battling but they were too much for him. Garrett started and chipped in with 7 rebounds so you know the staff knew they needed help against the Nova front line. Nova was ripping the ball out of SJU's hands under the basket. They were just too strong.

I've noticed that when GG gets the ball on a fast break he goes up strong and dunks it. But when he receives a pass under the basket, or when he is going up for a rebound, he doesn't get up very high from a standstill position. I've seen several of his bunnies blocked because he didn't go up strong. And his rebounding numbers in some of our games are atrocious.

We are lucky we have him. Instead of ripping him, that's all I'll say considering the state of things right now.

Agreed. He has minimal help withstanding the onslaught of multiple big men of opposing teams. The kid puts in maximum effort. We should be singing his praises that keeps at it.

Keep your chin up GG, there are plenty of supporters rooting like crazy for you.

My post was not meant to rip Gift. I am glad we have him. I am a fan of the dunk because they are seldom missed and almost never blocked without a foul being called. I always felt that Lamont Hamilton went up too soft when he was under the basket and I'm seeing the same thing in Gift. Big guys should go up strong and throw it down. It gives the defense less of an opportunity to block the shot and it gets the crowd excited. Sometimes, a coaching staff needs to find a way to get a kid to play more aggressively. Gift and Moe both need that right now.

Loved the fact that he took about five charges. he's playing hard, it's just that sometimes he's overwhelmed by bigger guys, Yarou and Pinkston were loads under the boards.

BTW, did anybody else see Pinkston and think that Gathers plays a lot like him?

Gift is so used to zone he can't stay with anybody.

Yarou was rated 97 and top 10 at his position by ESPN in 2009. He is a legit 6'10. Markus Kennedy is 6'9 , 270 and Pinkston is 6'7, 260.
That is what happened yesterday to GG!
Only Sir Dom helped GG with under-the-basket rebounds. Harkless was usually at the 3 point line.
GG gives 100% of his talent level every game. He was the last and least recruited. He starts by default. God bless him because without him this team loses every single game this year!

watching him and behanon on lousivile play and be very effective makes me want him extremely badly. Hes bigger than both and rated higher than both I believe

He's also stronger than a bull. He also has nimble feet.
