Here is a quick summary of the issues facing the ACC

The ACC equally divides all TV money among its members.

The ACC receives substantially less TV revenue than the SEC and B1G.

Florida State, Clemson and UMiami (called them the “Football Schools”) feel that their cut of TV money is unfair compared to say Wake or Syracuse since football generates more money from a network than basketball.

The Football Schools believe that the lesser sums of TV money they receive puts them at a big disadvantage to the football powers in the SEC and B1G.

The Football Schools have by contract previously assigned their sports media rights to the ACC which makes it likely impossible to leave before the expiration of such agreement in 2036, or a majority of ACC votes to dissolve, or the assignment is declared by a court of competent jurisdiction to be unenforceable.

At a recent meeting of the ACC ADs it was rumored that in private discussions 7 of the 14 ACC members came down, in one way or another in favor of tiered distribution of the TV revenue or dissolution of the ACC. The other schools possibly leaning with the Football Schools include Virginia Tech, UNC and 2 others.

Most expect that their will be some short term compromise on ACC member payments but long run The Football Schools want out of the ACC.

Good synopsis. Actually founding members UNC and Virginia are in lockstep with FSU, Miami and Clemson with Va Tech and one other school (Pitt?) joining in.

That sure as hell sounds like UNC and Virginia know they will be in the Big 10.

you got loot, but how about booty or bones?

Football at the college level with TV ratings and betting dwarfs college BB money wise; probably didn't so much before TV money came into the picture.

College BB ratings suffer because there are a gazillion games on almost every night except Sunday. With college FB once a week for the big time games, so they get high ratings and all the bettors watch to follow their bones......
