A Johnnies mini-bash in NC (sort of)- RedStormNC & NCJohnnie meet !!!
Hey guys, great job in meeting and sharing this with us.

Maher and I have become good friends because of this site. We were chatting just the other day about how face to face meetings with other redmen.comers and then publicizing it makes dialogue on this site more civil and friendly for everyone.

When the guys got together at the Garden, mike noted that there are a few guys I know whose opinions are vastly different on some subjects, but we never get nasty with each other. Mike noted "Man, he thinks alot of you personally." The poster is Dinkins, and i would say the feeling is completely mutual. We met in Charlotte, my girls chatted with and liked his then little boy, and a relationship developed that is stronger than our basketball personal opinions. I havent met tom in Salem but I also like him immensely personally and it curbs animos when we disagree here. Moose is another great guy and although our exchanges are sometimes pointed on the very first time we met at an event, he won a jacket that wasnt his size but quickly gave it to me.

A few weeks ago I was at a conference. At one juncture I was dressed rather casually, and wore a st. John's fleece jacket. An exhibitor called out to me by name and I had never met him and was puzzled how he picked me out of a crowd.

Turns out I had spoken to him earlier in the year about co-bidding on an opportunity. He had gone to st. John's and played lacrosse here. We are connected on linked in, and he put my face together with my name. Now I hope to hire him soon.

The point is really this. I've written a lot here how st. John's is improving leaps and bounds as a university. The board is comprised of enormously talented and good men who had the business and moral strength to fire Harrington. I hated the Gempeshaw hire but Bobby is rapidly building a high class organization, Mike Cragg the latest of many. But what really defines the greatness of st. John's is you, us. Men and women, children and grandchildren of immigrants who are having a little more success in their lives because of sju. We here at redmen.com are only starting to realize the value if each bbn other as a community that is centered on basketball but is much richer and deeper.

And that's all just great
Perfectly said

Very cool. Lake Norman is a gray area. I went to school in Charlotte and has a friends parents who live in Mooresville right on the lake.

Get to at least one Davidson game a year 72. They always play a good brand of basketball and there are a couple of great little restaurants in town so we make a nice evening or afternoon out of it. Davidson is a small liberal arts, basketball only school. If we were looking to expand our footprint south, BE could do worse than adding Davidson. Expect McKillop's son may take over when he decides its time to retire.
Sounds like one North Carolina Johnnie fan is doing a little bit of lobbying for Davidson . Maybe someone wants at least one red team to visit once a year.

Concidentally, Coach McKillop was sitting in front of my family and I at mass this morning.

From your mouth to God's ears then!

Funny, my sister and her family relocated to Mooresville last year.

Davidson lost a heartbreaker to Temple in OT yesterday (although they did play w/o their leading scorer).

North Carolina is one of the places I am considering moving to for my retirement years. I have cousins who were born and raise here in NY who have moved down to Raleigh, Charlotte and surrounding areas and they love it. I have visited and actually tried to get my daughter to at least apply to UNC and NC State. She didn’t (too far away she said).

Great story about you and RedStormNC living in same town, NCJ, and meeting up in a bar & grill...some things never change!
I bet though that the paraphernalia on the wall is all UNC and ACC, with maybe a corner for Davidson?
Would they throw you guys out if you asked to put a Red Storm banner up there?!?
Joking.
Thanks again guys.

SJU85, retirees (like yours truly) love it here - lots of sunshine, great college basketball and still get 4 seasons with one or two snowfalls per winter. However high school or college age daughters born and bred in NYC area not so much - too slow for them. All mine ended up back in NY or NJ after a few years.

No Chicago, they'd smile and say "bless your heart", but next time we returned the Red Storm banner would be gone and my pale ale would be spiked with hot sauce.

I've done a lot if business in the south over the years and northeast transplants discover what a yankee is for the first time in their lives when you are referred to as one by a southerner. While you consider unc and wake forest for your kids, southerners prefer schools like ole miss. All great people tho and I learned that initially people are wary of new Yorkers but I'd ignore it and always be warm, honest and diligent. Great relationships ensued.

After a several attempts and a few unplanned schedule changes, the two NC's met up again (same place) to talk all things St. John's & Big East basketball, along with some family etc.

NC Johnnie had the Yuengling and a burger, and I had hard cider and cheesesteak..

We came to the conclusion that we don't know how the Johnnie's will turn out this year, but headed on the right path and just need to beat Vermont tomorrow.

Good times.

Yum, a Yuengling! Solid choice. America’s Oldest Brewery Pottsville, Pa. Hope you had a good time.

Yes, a craft beer before there were craft beers! Always a good time discussing SJU hoops with RedStormNC. We are shooting for twice a season meetups going forward!

Redzone, that is a coincidence. Whereabouts in Lake Norman are you? Maybe you can join us when we get together for our next Johnnie meetup. We are both in Mooresville.

Mods - please move to Players Lounge sub forum if better..

Redzone - Wow...a 3rd in this area? Come out next time.

Mj - just commercial cheesesteaks. Edible but not destination. Coincidentally, I was in Philly a few weeks ago on college visits w/ daughter and finally did the whole Pat's vs Geno's. I ate a full steak at both within 30 min. I felt sick afterwards. Pat's was much better in my opinion (bread and steak texture). A co-worker from Philly recommended others as better but since I was there I figured I'd just do the tourist thing w/ daughter and get 2 for 1.

I've read that they really don't like each other but they've made each other rich. Whomever has the pizza cheesesteak is the one I liked best, but philly natives will tell you neither is the best
