2. Will there be a shakeup on the staff?
Short of a change at the top, new AD Mike Cragg could meet with Mullin and demand/suggest staff changes. The Mike Rice as-an-assistant rumors have been bubbling for several years now, but never came to fruition. Matt Abdelmassih does most of the recruiting for this team that relied heavily on transfers, yet he has been linked to his old Iowa State boss Fred Hoiberg, who appears in play for the Nebraska job. “Matt is the glue that keeps the program together,” one source close to the program said. “If he leaves, it will set the program back five years.”-I wonder who thnks this!!!!

I could 100 percent see Matt giving this quote about himself.

If in fact an assistant coach leaving would set the program back five years (from an already so-so place), things would be pretty hopeless. Don't believe that is the case, despite the fact we have some serious issues to address.

Five years ago was better, so this would work for me.

if we lose our only recruiter just another sign of complete mismanagement. Another thing we've all been saying here for years

That would be a good guess but I have a hunch it wasn't him that said it.

Let's see what he off-season brings.

LOL

Well, imo: 1) Mullin likely returns;
2) There had best be a positive staff shakeup and perhaps dramatic IF Matt also leaves;
3) Ponds is gone and the best of luck to Shamorie;
4) Now that it's likely Heron is gone, the question remains valid: Who else will leave?
Possible candidates may include Simon, Earlington, Trimble, Roberts.
5) Who's coming in, besides Wright, Caraher, Mack, Steere, Manuel?
Numerous variables are in the mix. Keys are the (new?) Staff's ability and aggressiveness to act fast to developments and replace any departures with capable Big East quality players.
This off-season might be very stressful.
Got to hope for the best and trust that Mike Cragg has an agenda that fits his vision.

Our biggest need(s) for success going forward are strong recruiting and equally important, continuity. Assuming we don't have a new coach (which almost always brings transfers), I would hope we have almost no one leave unless they are graduating or going pro. That is how you build a successful program (witness Villanova). Develop your talent over 3 or 4 years. It is admittedly my pet peeve, but hate to see speculation over who will leave as it is symptomatic of our problems to date.

Offseason for us is right now, and I suspect some things will move pretty fast.

Our program has issues that need resolution.
To do nothing or make wrong coaching or recruiting or roster construction moves would make things worse.
It'll take a mix of decisions this off-season that are derived from a solid core of principles to achieve long-term success with sensible first steps that require execution by a fully-committed coaching staff.
On to the challenges.

Not sure what you just said but hey it sounds good so I'm in complete agreement. LOL

If Trimble comes back, it better be as the third or fourth off the bench. Great kid, great teammate, not close to a BE player.

Another question to add:
6. Why does the coaching staff not even attempt to have players try and rebound on the offensive side of the court?

They know better than every other coach in college, including those in the Hall of Fame or heading that way.
