Zendon Hamilton, Artest, Postell, Lopez
4 guys that made pros. Team didn’t have a point guard and lost in first round.
Can’t say for sure Jackson isn’t a point but can’t say he looked like one last year.

You might have overlooked Erik Barckley on the Artest team .

He was a great PG . One of the best in our history , even for a short time here .

Nobody knows how things will shake out, but damn if people can’t just enjoy the process/getting our highest ranked player in god knows how long. Just weird to me that people try to come on here and shit all over things to prove how much ball knowledge they have.
We've got as much upside as any team in the country, and our floor would be our 2nd most successful season in 25 years. lol. Its an incredible time to be a fan.

Yea looking back at my posts from yesterday, I didn't mean to come off as down on the team we have coming in. For me it was more about defending the team we just had here, that gave us a special season and won both the Big East regular season and BET, and was one of the top 8 teams in the tournament.

I hope next years team is even better and has more talent, but I admittedly will have to wait and see on that before I willingly exclaim they are better than the 24-25 squad. A lot of that has to do with emotional attachment to the team I saw reach heights no St John's team has in my lifetime as a fan.

Speculation is just that. I believe what people are saying about Sanon and Jackson. But I would be lying if I said I watched a lot of Arizona State and North Carolina basketball last season. So I just need to see what they do for us. Nevertheless I am very pumped for the season and to see the last few pieces we can get here.

Last thing I'll add on this - I think worrying about "chemistry" right now is a moot point. Look at the portal numbers this offseason. Look at the turnover around the country. You could make the case that nearly every team in the country is going to have to build chemistry throughout the year. It is kind of a level playing field there. And we have a good coach and staff that I am confident will be able to facilitate chemistry over the course of the season, this was evident to me in the VICE doc, the team clearly had issues around the start of big east play and we figured it out quickly. Staff has to get credit for that

Not just you... but see it come up a bit... " I dont have blind faith in Rick" type statement.... how?

He is a Living Coaching Legend... has had success as Every stop in his journey (sans Celtics)... who are "blind faith" coaches?
-Wooden / Dean / K / Roy ....? Rick has to be close if not on the list...

If there was anyone to have blind faith in this day in age... man, Rick has to pretty effin close lol
Many St. John's fans right now.... Can you blame those fans?

Two quick thoughts about the point guard situation:

1. A lot of folks around here still seem to view the PG position like we're in the Bob Cousy/Mo Cheeks era of basketball and the PG is "setting guys up". To my eyes, the PG has the ball in his hands less these days than at any time I can remember, especially in Pitino's offense and belief in positionless basketball. Anyone can bring the ball up, the PG basically starts the offense. The pick and roll/pop game can be played by any position 1-3, not just the PG. In this world, taking a guy like Jackson and making him the quote-unquote PG is not as risky as it may have been 20 years ago IMO

2. As to those lamenting our two amazing departing PGs and the awesome chemistry of last year's team, might I remind you that early last year Kadary was struggling mightily, and the chemistry- in general and between the two PGs- was so amazing that one of them got suspended for throwing a tantrum over his usage and the difficulty the two of them had in figuring out their roles. It speaks well of both of them that by the end they worked it out, but a LOT of that credit goes to CRP and staff. Of course nothing is guaranteed but so far CRP has shown not only an ability to coach them, but pick them. Highly doubt anyone coming here is a me-first guy and if they are that will be dealt with swiftly and severely. The last thing I'm worried about is how all the pieces are going to fit together.

Mo Cheeks is what Kadary gave defenders as he backed them down in the lane.

To be fair staff went after Lee, a more traditional type PG, extremely hard. He was their first choice PG. Ian was seen as more of a wildly talented off guard, small forward guy who could also play point in manner Sim did depending on the situation.

Just putting this in proper and fair perspective.
Agreed. Definitely not saying that a traditional PG wouldn't be ideal. It would.

Hopefully CRP can do what he's done before and make Jackson good enough to win with.

And the same stuff doesn't occur on the Muts thread? Come on, Moose.
Sorry, I largely do a good job on staying on topic, but I have to provide a little levity in light of Delaware's response about the "Muts thread." It reminded me of the Seinfeld episode when George, while playing a game of Trivial Pursuit, refused to accept the answer to the question about the "Moors" invading Spain in the 8th century: "Oh no, I'm so sorry, but the correct answer is the 'Moops'."

Assuming Mitchell is next, he makes 11 players. Even though they can go to 15 scholarships players, the next two players to get to 13 have to be PGs, correct?

The PGs you referenced may be be in witness protection. 😇
