How will they show their offensive skills if they don't play defense, because if they are lazy and won't play defense then they aren't playing.

They will have no choice in the matter, so I hope before deciding to come here that they think really hard about if they want to play defense or not.

Really , what it comes down to is if RP trusts any of the 3 , Lefty, Glover, and Sim to play the Deivon role. I havent seen or heard it from RP ,and certainly didnt see it from the three players aforementioned this past season. In todays Portal world and a 72 yr old coaches world, theres seems more of a push to get instant experienced talent rather than the alternative. Yes, RP stresses skill development, but more productive to start with a solid history than an unknown base. Clarity will become more obvious as we sign more transfers re Sim,Lefty, Glover.

Exactly. Houston is a better version of what SJU was this past season. TBH they don't even have a much more functional offense, they just have some guys who can hit high degree of difficulty shots.

If Pitino can keep the D at a high level and also have a working offense a Final 4 is not out of the question.

My concern at the moment is that while keeping Zuby helps enormously, we still need to offset the huge losses of Kadary, Luis and Scott. Hopkins helps replace some of the lost rebounding but you lose some switchability and the rest of the losses are still pending replacement from a defensive standpoint (I know nothing about Sanon so maybe he helps on that end, tho).

But I'm off topic now.

I think it's more likely that the PG they land on will be close to a 30 MPG guy (or at least that's the hope) and Wilcher will get the other 10.

With Sanon aboard and theoretically Sellers buying in, then if Glover and Liotopoulos are staying you can't really bring in yet another guard.

Tho I wonder whether they are thinking of playing Glover more at the 3. He's strong enough. He will just have to avoid AJ Storr syndrome and pay attention to parts of his game that don't involve shooting

Yes but as noted we would have to be as good defensively and thus far I am skeptical. Tho offensive improvement may help offset that, but then you start to look like a more standard team and lose the advantage of doing something at a level most opponents aren't used to.

I believe Glover will be slotted in as a three and agree on his learning curve, notably defensively,

That’s pretty much what I said lol

Glover should be a 3, but exactly right about the AJ comparison on the boards and defensively.

So PG, Sanon, Sellers*, Wilcher, Liotopoulos are 5 guards. Even with Glover at the 3 or the 2/3 all you really have room for is a low-minutes PG, probably.

The 3 you would have Glover, Imran if he comes, and whoever they sign (and they need someone there).

The 4/5 is set with Zuby, Hopkins, Vince, Prey and Maker assuming all return, if not they need a Marillac-type "rebounding machine" to help which would be a good idea anyway.

That's 14.

All that’s true but I meant it more in a program sense. Today it feels like houston has been around for ever. Sampson has made them a fixture in March now, and as a team moving forward. 8 years ago they were a forgotten about “once was”. That’s what Pitino is doing for us.

Rick mentioned Sanon as specifically a wing, think he will see plenty of time next to two guards. Just like Glover though, that opens up other questions about defense and rebounding.
