Boogies is projected as a second rounder…

Interesting that Big East lists 3 late 1st rounders and a couple of 2d. Yaxel is there but no RJ.

Also Dook has 3 lottery picks, so its never a guarantee for a natty.

I know I bought up how Rick hasn't said the roster is complete yet so went back to look at what he said in past years and basically like everything Rick says publicly, it really isn't worth putting much stock into it.

Couldn't find a specific post from last year about it but here is his post in May of 2023 about the 23-24 roster being complete. After this post we still ended up trading Slazinski for Ledlum and added Wilcher.

Amen, keep preaching until Boogie boogies his way to Queens! 🤣
I am simply stating that we should temper our expectations based upon ONE PLAYER....especially a guard not projected in the first round of the NBA draft to WIN IT ALL!
Hence ...... regardless of MSG attendance, it is team effort that wins titles.
See our last game of the season as an example.

I don’t see any harm in dreaming big and having expectations based on the coach and team we have for next season. We are fans, that is what we do. And of course it is a team game as the whole must always better than the individual parts. We agree on that. But we can also want as much talent as possible and no one can argue that this kid doesn’t have the talent to make any college team better, especially a team like ours, who some feel still have questions/unknowns at the PG position.

I think he certainly raises the floor, but wouldn't disagree that our ceiling is unchanged if he were to come. Boogie has his own flaws he has to work through.

The chemistry/one basketball dynamic would also be supercharged for Rick to figure out.

If you're just trying to say, Boogie doesn't guarantee any high-end success (aka, BET title, BE regular season title, Elite 8 or third weekend), I agree.

To that point neither Jackson nor Fland carried their team to the Elite 8 last year (let alone the championship) and at various times weren't even starters. Obviously a lot of talent and should be better and more consistent as sophs than freshmen. But yes, pump the brakes a bit. Zuby, Mitchell, Hopkins, Sellers come with a more established presence, though.

I still think your argument is flawed even after tweaking it.

On one hand you are saying that Fland does not guarantee a championship based on one player, especially when he is a guard projected to go in the second round.

Yet in the other hand you say it is a team game.

If it is a team game, then being a lottery pick or an undrafted free agent, should not matter since it is about how a player fits in a system. If Jackson and Fland play off of one another and execute, no one will care about draft status.

And then the position in the court should not matter either. I mentioned former big men first overall picks Shaq, Duncan, and Flagg (who will be) who failed to win titles.

It is hard to not be over the moon with excitement about the team as constructed. But we will hit Mars level thrills if Fland ever comes to SJU. That is a guarantee.

A couple of observations. Unless I missed his name, RJ doesn't appear in the NBA Draft. Secondly, one could make the case that Walter Clayton, Jr. was Florida's best player and one of the best guards in the country last season. I have a neighbor down here in NC who is a huge Duke fan and he told me that Clayton is a helluva player. My point is in the bleacherreport mock draft, Clayton is projected as the 24th pick as the best player on the best team in the nation last year. Does anyone think that if Clayton played in NYC and garnered the publicity created by St. John's last year, Clayton's draft position would be higher than #24?

It seems that if Boogie wants to boost his draft position, playing at St. John's in NYC makes more sense for him.

I don't think where you play is in any way relevant. I have seen Clayton anywhere from 12 to 28 in mock drafts. RJ played here and he barely sniffs the second round in most.

NBA cares about how somebody's game fits what the league wants. There are some questions about Clayton's athleticism; with RJ it's the fairly obvious holes in his game that go along with the obvious strengths.

Could Clayton turn out to be Jalen Brunson and RJ turn out to be Draymond Green? Sure. They don't always get it right. But those are the apparent NBA thought processes - and the mock drafts could also be wrong.

Boogie guarantees nothing. We have heard the same argument before when other players have been brought in. Many forget, it’s all about team chemistry and all too often as good as a player is, that does not guarantee team chemistry. The way the team is situated now is about as good as it gets. Ever hear the statement too many cooks spoil the broth?

Also, there’s more than pure talent that determines a team’s advancement in the Big Dance and it’s not just about the players. A lot will depend on game preparation for a particular team, not just having offensive weapons but defensive strategies as well that will change if necessary. To hear posters make absurd statements that one player will bring a championship is sillier then my name.

As someone mentioned above Duke not only had more talent than most other teams but a generational player in Flagg and they didn’t win.

Name one poster here who said Boogie will guarantee us a national championship. I'll wait.

Ooof. Are you and Rocket related? For heaven’s sake, when has anyone claimed Fland guarantees a title?

I do guarantee that if you reread earlier posts, it will make that abundantly clear.

Leave my son out of this ! 😉

Weren't you the Nostradamus who said "Fland guarantees SJU is placed squarely as one of the top 2-3 teams favored to win it all."

Mamma Mia......you have them in the CHAMPIONSHIP game! If I were superstitious instead of stupendous, I would think you are giving us the MAL'OCCHIO!🤘

Objection, relevance.

Not one person — reasonable or otherwise — thinks any combination of players guarantees anything. Why even bring it up then?

The better team doesn’t always win a seven-game series let alone a one-
game elimination tournament.

All you can do is assemble the best roster on paper and hope for good luck and chemistry.

Complaining about adding Boogie would be like an irritated Logen asking “who is going to clean all those damn rooms” after winning a mansion in a raffle.

First of all show me where I even said National Championship? I’ll wait as well, My Duke reference was relative to their talent level. I said advancing in the tournament. You should re read a post before you decide to challenge it.

But since you asked, LJSA stated it as did SJU Willrock etc. . And while you technically just said “our chances will increase” you implied it. 😎👍

You just agreed with Silly and contradicted my paesan Kranmars list of "guarantees":

"Fland guarantees to elevate this team’s already impressive roster’s talent, to a level we have never seen or even dreamed of as fans.

Fland guarantees SJU is placed squarely as one of the top 2-3 teams favored to win it all.

Fland guarantees SJU will be a very hot entertainment destination next season and bring in a lot of publicity and money to the University.

Those are pretty worthwhile guarantees."

Let's stop beating Paultzman's dead horse and agree to disagree 😉
