2025 Portal

Then, based upon your very detailed analysis, he will be drafted. NBA evaluators know about his thumb.
CRP is not waiting with a bag for Boogie. We will be better off with Dylan Darling. Tyson Chicken will be paying Boogie, not Mike R.
Most likely he will be drafted, play in the G League and be a bust.
Boogie should look to the NBA now, and get his NBA money now.
Ian is our starting PG, and we are blessed and fortunate. He will be GREAT.
Calipari already said "Tyson chicken" won't be paying Boogie, hence why he is in the portal

In the words of the Sports Pope: let’s be honest. Many of us were in Providence. Did Mr. Fland distinguish himself at all? I humbly say NO.
The NBA drafts players based upon future projections. Boogie is not ready for the NBA right now. But he still will be drafted. Most likely the early second round. His value will only go down too, because he will get drafted on potential. I evaluate him as OVERRATED. Sorry.
RJ should NOT return to college if he has a smart agent. WHY? Is value will only go DOWN. CRP is correct in advising RJ to go all in for the NBA, despite RJ pooping the sheets in Providence. He probably will have to wait for the mid to late second round.
Please stop with the Boogie fantasies. Only Arkansas will overpay him.
Don't agree with RJ's value only going down if he goes back to college for another year. He's not even on the NBA draft board right now. Another stellar college year could change that for him.

RJ will be 23 years old for next year's NBA draft. Last year, 11 of the players drafted were 23 years old, including 4 first rounders. So it's not like he will be over the hill. Plus, he will make around 6 years' worth of G-League salary for one more year of college.

Fland at 18 years of age has tons of time on his side to stay in college.

How is RJs value going to go up? He will not be playing for us, so he will have a new coach, new teammates, a new system, a new campus, new classes, new classmates, etc. RJ is not a teenager, he is a grown man with a significant injury history (wrist and both shins).
CRP gave RJ the correct advice. He should listen.
Btw, Chris Ledlum has been playing very successfully in France. The NBA and the G League are not the only options.
23 going on 24 in college is not a blueprint for NBA success.

SPORTS ILLUSTRATED: Albany Men's Basketball Coach Proposes Two-Way Contracts As Way to Navigate Transfer Portal

I was thinking this would be inevitable. It can be very beneficial for both teams...you send a team like LIU kids they would never be able to sign like Maker and Glover, let them get major minutes, monitor them closely, schedule some joint practices and scrimmages, and then take them up.

It could get to the point that someone like Pitino would install his system at the lower school and have one of his assistants oversee it.

When a kid like Vince transfers out...you steer them to the lower team. Perhaps help out with some $ too.

Think of it this way though. That was his second game in two months. Risking further injury on his thumb in order to play for a team that he thought would be one-and-done. Pretty impressive character and grit for that, right?

Prior to his thumb injury on January 11th, in 15 games, he averaged: 15.5/6 assists/4 rebounds/1.7 steals, only 1.7 turnovers/1.5 fouls.
41% FG/36% 3PT/81% FT. They were also 11-4. He tried to play through injury, and they shut it down after two games. His numbers definitely took a little bit of a dip against better competition.

We're extremely lucky this is even a remote possibility. Its basically because the thumb injury derailed his season. But any type of second year jump with us, especially given his ball handling/passing prowess, would make us national title favorites and the number one preseason team.

And unlike RJ, he's only 18. He can still be very young, clean up some parts of his game, and be a top 10 pick.
My main concern would be if he'd fully buy into the team first culture next year, or try too much to make it a personal audition for the NBA.

I think this starts off with buyouts and could eventually get to this.

Chemistry is my main concern no matter who we add.

At least with Boogie, the thing to impress the NBA the most would be distributing the ball and playmaking for others + playing good defense.

The Boyd kid at SDSU had one, but its a rare thing. I think it'll eventually be very standard, if not required, once there's rules around freedom of movement. It is the easiest way to help everybody.
Is that what kept the big man there?

Just because he is not playing for SJU does not mean his value cannot go up next year. If he comes back to college, he will almost certainly be playing for a top tier team with a top tier coach.

Yes, in a prefect world RJ would be younger. But look at the 23 years olds who were drafted last year and are currently playing in the NBA - eg, Dalton Knecht, Baylor Scheierman, Terrence Shannon Jr. , etc. Being 23 in college is not a death wish for making the NBA. RJ doesn't want to follow in Ledlum's footsteps, he's a far better player than Ledlum.

That’s what Ian will be doing. Forget Boogie and forget RJ.

I am not a scout but I saw both Boogie and Ian play at Stepinac and Hayes from their Freshman through Junior year several times and then Boogie as a senior after Ian went to OSL. While not directly comparable because of their size and skill sets I feel the following.

Jackson was better each of their first three years but I had concerns about his outside shooting. After last season those are gone. I was really impressed with him at UNC in a role that limited his ability. He still has some areas he can improve in but I think he could exceed some of the boards expectations. He is an immense talent.

Fland didn’t impress me as much and especially his first three years seemed a bit overrated. He improved a lot his senior year. He was hurt a good portion of the season and the team seemed to improve when he went out but I think that was just a coincidence.

I agree he didn’t stand out for much of the game in Providence but who on St. John’s besides Zuby did. That said when the game was on the line Fland blew by Smith if I recall and scored a huge late basket.

If Fland is a first round pick I agree he should go to the NBA if not he should go to back to college. I don’t see him not being a second round pick if he returns to college.

I think it’s interesting that so much time and energy is wasted on a thread based on an improbable supposition. First of all Boogie is focused on the draft. Second of all, if he doesn’t go when he wants to in the draft, if Cal wants him back, I’m sure he can match and outbid whatever Pitino does so why change. And thirdly, what makes you think Pitino wants Boogie? Did you ever stop to think that part of the deal in getting Jackson to commit (remember it took a while?) was that Coach agreed to play him at point? Pitino went out of his way to make a grand statement as such.
