2025 BIG EAST TOURNAMENT

For the most part , nearly every game , we impart our Will on the opponent and that’s all she wrote .

We will be dangerous in the Tourney because of that ability and it doesn’t seem to matter , who the other team is .

Very few of potential opponents in the Tourney will have experienced a defense as fierce as our Team’s is .

We basically blew out 2 pretty good teams in the BET and we will be a tough out for sure.

Maybe not out , at all!

What a night, what a tournament. I don't think it really hit me until I got off the LIRR last night and then this morning...walking to my car from the train last night I got very emotional and then this morning driving to the deli to get the papers and coffee, I almost starting balling my eyes out in the car. Walking out of MSG last night I took one last long look at the ceiling that had the St. John's is Big East Tournament Champions graphic flashing as you left. I stood outside the MSG marquee and took pictures of the championship signs...

When the final buzzer sounded I just covered my face and mouth in disbelief and trying to hold it together. I closed my laptop with about 2:30 left in the game to soak it all in. I'm 36...I was a student during the Norm Roberts days and covered the team back then throughout...that being said I've seen like 3 halfway decent teams since 2006 and man does this season feel surreal. I never thought I'd see a conference championship. I never thought I'd see a Saturday night Big East Tournament game. I never thought I'd see confetti once in a season let alone twice in the span of a week. I never thought I'd see a player score 33 pts in a BET game. I never thought I'd see nets cut down. I never thought I'd be on the floor capturing it all picking up red white and blue confetti off the floor.

I've said it on the podcast, I said it at the bars this is for all of us. Cherish it, hold on to it, don't take it for granted.

30-4 before Selection Sunday?!

While losing sucks more than anything, a season like this becomes so much sweeter because of all we have endured. And we really have endured. To all the die hards I hope you caught some confetti. I hope you are making travel plans for Thursday. I hope you were able to share Saturday night with someone special be it a spouse, child, grandchild, or best friend. This season has been so special because of sharing it with fellow fans who all relate to the pain but most of all the joy every win has brought.

Hope everyone enjoys Selection Sunday...lets keep this season going for 6 more wins!

Thank you everyone for the support this year.

A great post Dave , so appreciated.
For those of us who were there in 83, 85 and 86, we never imagined we would wait 40 odd years to return. We almost got there in 91, and again in 2000 but the ref failed to call the bump on Sconnie Penn. But we did live through some great times of SJU ball.
But for the younger fans who have never seen this level of success or excitement I truly feel for you and are happier for you than myself. You deserve to experience being on the same mountain of euphoria that we once sat upon, a long long time ago.
And thank you for all that you have done for the program during the season Dave. Your work is greatly appreciated.
G d bless you.

Dave, I ran into you many times at msg, barclays for the empire classic, down in s florida for the orange bowl classic etc. This is so sweet for all of us but especially for us who have really supported this team through the dark times. I am still pinching myself!

One of the best things about last night and this season in general as it gained steam is not only bonding over people from the time I was there I regularly talk to but reconnecting with others who attended the same time period as me who I lost touch with even I added them as friends in the infancy of social media.

I'm of the age where I vaguely remember the 1980s era. I was always a fan, but I really got into it on another level when Sealy and Werdann led that run as juniors to the Elite 8. From there, was as hooked as you could be. Going through the ups-and-downs of the Felipe era, the resurgence under Fran that Jarvis inherited, the "what ifs" with Omar Cook, Darius Miles, Lenny Cooke. The Jarvis scandal and Roberts disaster. Lavin making everyone believe year 1 that what happened yesterday could actually be possible again, only to have DJ blow out his knee and Lavin get sick, which IMO impacted the entire trajectory of his tenure and adds to the long list of "what ifs" we have as SJU fans. The last Lavin team which I loved but who I knew had a ceiling, coupled with the disappointment from his last few recruiting classes of missing on Briscoe and others, Sheed Jordan's "demons", and Willard selling his soul to Tiny to get Whitehead, which was really the final nail in the Lavin coffin IMO. Only to have high hopes at various points during the Mullin and Anderson eras, then to fall short and seemingly always have the "other shoe drop". Stayed a diehard throughout all of that, went to games, and followed the program daily by participation on our boards.

Yesterday was just so gratifying on multiple levels.

Ok, I give up, SJU has an historic win but many of you remain obsessed by one bad call. Enjoy
I almost never comment on referring but in the this case the call based on everything I’ve seen, heard and read IMHO appeared to be intentional malfeasance on the part of Breeding who ironically has a moniker of something he appears to lack.

North, great post. My freshman year was the 85 team. Of course, I followed them in 80s during High School and attended many games. Your post is so on target because of 3 words “we never imagined”.

St. John’s was never North Carolina or Duke but was the team no one ever wanted to play. Always tough as nails. Contending for BE titles and the “potential” to make a run. A few years after I graduated Looie retired and it was mostly …gone. The hope of Felipe, Tarik and Zendon never enough. For a nice run with Ron and Erick and Bootsy. Gone too fast. Then a whole lot of nothing. I mean they even took our nickname (Redmen). Bad Coaching and the school really not attempting to run a first class big time program.I’d sit in the half empty Garden or Alumni Hall always watching and hoping for next year’s recruiting class. The world had passed us by. Until last night. Thank God for RP and this team. Last night they really put us back in the “game”.

Sorry, you believe what you want but unless you share what you saw, who you talked to and how they acquired whatever info they shared, and what you read and the source, your post means the same to me as the other posters I wasted my time with.
And if you had all that first hand knowledge you don’t post what it “appeared to be” because in my world with all due respect that means you have no definitive idea.
My last word on the subject because IMO you guys took a fabulous event and completely sidetracked it with pretty irrelevant paranoiac nonsense.
And unfortunately I am certainly one of “you guys” for which I am totally embarrassed.

I posted once seems more like you’re the one obsessing about it. You must be a real riot around that water cooler. 😉😊👍

Logen man, it’s all good. Everyone has their opinions on the call. It was still a wonderful win and night. From my view you are allowing yourself to be overly bothered by fans who took issue with the call or what they perceived as the refs intentions. Some are upset about the call, some people move on from it, some empathize with the difficult job of a referee as you do. It’s all okay.

As I said last night, i think the issue with Luis celebration was he pointed the “3 point sign” ;) at the Creighton player which I think was then perceived as a taunt by the ref. As opposed to the Creighton player celebration who did the celebration at his hip and not near any other player. I’d say it’s best to just move on from it

Excuse my language here, but that tech was completely bullshit.

It’s absolutely disgusting when refs have to insert themselves into a game. We’ve all played hundreds of games without refs…they are not necessary. Their entire role is to try to keep things fair. They aren’t the morality police or there to teach lessons.

Even if he thought it was a gun gesture, who cares? Make that call week 2 of the season in the first half. You don’t make it in a close game in the second half of the Big East Championship. The league needs to make an example of him.

These main character energy refs need to go.

That Breeding is the worst / most annoying ref in the sport is not news. The guy my son refers to as Fat Mike Bibby is pretty terrible also.

On a completely unrelated note I watched the game on tape and Vince played a terrific game in every respect. And his hook over Kalkbrenner was huge. He absolutely contributed heavily to the win.

Happy for the kid!

Breeding manages to ref almost every day of the season. I don't have the stats but he is akin to following Santa's sled on radar on Xmas eve.
