2025-2026 Season

Admittedly didn't watch much Idaho State basketball last year but watched what I could on Youtube and wherever which is never a full representation. Obviously numbers and the eye test check out but it's always a gamble counting on a kid that is moving up multiple levels. Better players than him have flopped when faced with stiffer competition.

More so than the talent evaluation skills or lack thereof of those of us on the board, I think Rick's comments today about Sellers being the starting PG is very telling. Always have to take Rick's words with a grain of salt but him saying Sellers is the starting PG even though it was likely said at least partially in jest indicates two things to me:

1. The Jackson PG experiment is already over which is not a surprise given what we've heard from 79 and others from the summer practices to now.
2. Rick has serious concerns about Darling on at least one of the end of floor right now.
Interesting. Heard different with Darling. Didn't hear he was going to be a 30 minute game guy but heard differently from a player and a coach ( not rick )

Here's your Ian Jackson PG update:

This seems like textbook Pitino motivation. As I've posted probably too much already, Sellers looks very skilled and extremely under control but he seems like a guy you want to be second or, better yet, third option with the ball. Sellers' biggest value to me is burying three's, attacking reckless closeouts, or swinging the ball from that right corner/wing area. He will probably be our best passer hitting cutters and I think he'll throw a pretty soft alley-oop and lobs over defenders that choose to front our bigs. He fits that Ponds great hands profile for to me. He seems like a good balance to Jackson and Sanon, who are likely to be out of control a lot early on.

Jackson should be better driving with the ball. Sanon can get his shot at will. How it all looks together and who can create for others are the big questions.

I urge everyone to watch full videos of Pitino interviews. Pitino also said Sellers is the PG because he takes care of the ball. If that's not another implicit message to Ian, not sure what is.

Jackson may not become a great PG, but his work ethic will make him a great player.
I’m thinking that CRP is envisioning Jackson and Sellers as “guards”. Think Earl Monroe and Clyde Frazier with the Knicks. With Sellers as Clyde and Ian as Earl. No true point guard, but lead guards.
For you younger fans think Kyrie Irving and James Harden with the Brooklyn Nets.
As long as they share and play defense, CRP will take our team very far.
I can’t wait.
