2025-2026 Schedule

Rick just said we're playing Iowa State and Baylor. I'm guessing that's alluding to NIL tournament.
I don't.... hate it.... Iowa St has been solid for years now... Baylor... eh... im over that loss lol... wish we got put in the Kansas / Auburn / Houston Pod....

Anyway... let's blow these two teams out so we have the best +margin of victory to play one of the top teams for the 'ship

Format makes zero sense to me.

Iowa State is 21st on Torvik, Baylor is 33rd. They're both very solid, but I wish we had one of the headliner programs. Iowa State will likely be really good again, but Baylor is really depleted. This is why I hate relying on these tournaments -- you have no control over who you're playing.

Still want one more challenging game on the schedule. Doesn't need to be a high major.

on the bright side its two winnable Q1 games so hopefully we take care of business and get matched up with Houston/Auburn/Kansas for the 3rd game

I'm relieved its not Syracuse/St. Joe's/etc., since those can easily go down to a Q2 game. But I'd rather have a guaranteed Q1a game, and go from there.

When all is said and done: It's about the March (April).

It is. We need to beat UConn in our head-to-head matchups ultimately, but I want the number one seed so we can play through Philly and DC to the Final Four. I don't want them to get the upperhand because their SOS is #1 and ours is #10. And, unlike last year, I want a schedule that gives our team a lot of different looks, styles, etc., so nothing catches us by surprise. It's a big upgrade compared to last year, so I don't want anyone to think I'm pressing a panic button. I just think there's room to fit one more big game.

I think our aims are in sync.

We owe Baylor for last year. Just don't have the same sideline officials and refs for this one too.

Grain of salt for anything Pitino says regarding scheduling IMO, could be something like we play Baylor round 1 and the winner of that faces the winner of Iowa St vs. St. Joe's, and Pitino is penciling in us and Iowa St to meet in round 2. Maybe we're guaranteed to play both of them with a different type of tournament structure (may make sense given the number of teams), but we should find out soon enough once the field is public.

Regardless though, I love the idea of playing Baylor again. The game last year was the most frustrating I've ever attended and I want to beat them badly. The Johnnies will be fired up to play them.

Scott Drew is one of the top coaches in the sport... maybe top 10... however...Looking at their transfer portal page.... oofff... looks to be a down year...

Will see our old friend JJ White again...

I'm glad you're over the Baylor loss. Speaking as someone who was in the building for it, I'll never get over that one. Would love to pound them into the ground in a revenge win.

My wife, who is hardly a fan, still brings up that game every now and then. Seeing the replay made it worse.
I was a mess the next day. Totally out of it, especially when all the replays came out showing the clock didn't start on time. If the whole "lifting up Zuby" thing hadn't happened the next night it would have ruined the whole trip.

Eff them, we owe them one.
