Who knows, I might be one of them.
Yes sir. This team has a sweet 16 appearance written all over it.
I’m thinking deep run as well. This team is going to kill it non conference as well. I think it’s the perfect storm.

It's going to be a long summer
Is a long summer of raging optimism from certain posters worse than nonstop complaining, though?

30 wins, baby!

We haven't even won a single tournament game in the entire time that a good portion of the current student body has been alive. I am cautiously optimistic about this team but I think we should temper expectations until we see the product on the court.

If we were talking about a pro team that handed out a whole bunch of long horrible contracts to mediocre players I'd agree with you. But in college it really doesn't matter if a team hasn't won a tournament game in 25 years. A college program can turn it around pretty quickly if they've made the right hires.

SJU has rarely ever had a deep, quality team like this one. I’m not saying they are all All-stars, but we have literally 13 capable players. We return our entire nucleus, including a team that beat Creighton,
WVU, Arizona, Marquette and other last year and we had a lot of holes and a new coach. We had an entire team learning a new system. We add some real quality to our talent base and fill some huge holes at spots like PG, C, and add more scorers. We won’t be the team with the most studs, but we will be the deepest team in the Big East, with quality depth and athleticism. With the style that Iron Mike employs, it’s gonna be real tough every game for our opponents. I’m not going to guarantee anything, but I think this is a tournament team if for sure LJ is back, and a team that could win the BET with our depth. Cma’s track record of consistency comes into play here and we will definitely take a step forward and not a step back this season. I think we will be better that NiT level for sure this season.

Unfortunately, that's a real possibility...

Was about to write the same thing !

As you guys know I only root for teams that stink e.g. Jets, Mets, Knicks, Isles (better in last yr or two but never go that far). SJ at best has been decent since I've been following and at worst has been awful. Not winning a tourney game in 20 yrs means you lost an entire generation of would be fans so yes that's a big deal. The CMA era is off to a good start but let's not get too crazy. It still remains to be seen if he can get us what even Mullin gave us e.g. a team that is just good enough to make the tourney by skin of our teeth but then get blown out. I will be thrilled if we finish 5th in the Big East or better next year. Remember that's out of 11 because UConn is coming. The recruiting still worries me because the recruits are almost always under the radar except for Posh (talking about HS recruits). I was hoping we would get Salnave due to a transfer of someone who won't get PT except in blowouts but did not happen so if one of LJ/Champ/Cole/Posh get injured it can derail the season. I just hope we have enough offense. Cautiously optimistic, but still need lots of questions answered. Let's try to be in the middle of the conference before we talk about Sweet 16's. That ain't happening next yr.

Although, I sort of agree with Double J.... You do make a striking point, LJSA.

I understand many times teams take incremental steps before they truly take off. But I can name many instances where a team or program came out gangbusters and things took off all of a sudden. There's nothing written in sports where it's mandatory that a team has to take small or incremental steps before they're good or great.

If LJ returns and the team stays healthy, CMA will have a better record next season than 21-13 (Mullin's NCAA year). Scoring may prove difficult at times but we should be the best defensive team in the Big East next year.

Really like this team if LJ does indeed come back. Deep and versatile. Improved long distance shooting. Plenty of length. Excellent defensive squad. Expectations should be top 5 BE and NCAA tourney *berth (thanks Fuchsia).

really hoping there is a season next year.... but if we see the same occurrence next "cold season", without a vaccine, don't know how similar action (no students on campus) isn't actioned given the precedent set.... not saying i agree with the action, just don't know how Universities will justify not taking the same action.

No kids on campus = No Final Four run ;) lol

Think you meant berth.

Nah. Matty meant 'birth' like a new beginning. Not 'berth' like a spot on t he shelf. Lol.
