2018 superlatives
Superlatives?
Am I the only one to think that this team has had so many other times where the feelings for the upcoming season were really good, only to be really disappointed. I am one of those and I hope and trust and pray that you guys on here --(that know a lot more than I do)-- are right!

Rolls out the balls.....men and get to work!
Dude I feel positive almost every October. I talk myself into good feelings more and more as the season approaches. That's all part of fandom. The fact that you end up disappointed 80% of the time is part of fandom as well, not just for us but in general.

I can't remember too many teams with high hopes that didn't perform. Maybe Lavin's team filled with high ranking recruits when they were juniors. This team has experience, potentially 2 NBA players, with one of them a possible Big East player of the year and maybe in the hunt for college POY. Only bad luck will change our date with March Madness.

Wonder why Dickie V left Mustapha off all of his ‘Solid Gold’ lists?
Still ‘not official’?
I’m betting Dickie missed one here.
I can't tell if you're joking or not. Is Heron a great transfer? Yes. If granted eligibility he will compete with Simon for 2nd best player on the team.

However there were two Auburn Tigers 2nd team all-SEC last year. Neither were Mustapha Heron, both are returning. One is on Dukie V's list. But expecting Heron to get pre-season AA honors is a bit ludicrous. Post season? Guess we shall see. Or should I say hopefully we shall see.

Agree, need to prove All American status. As far as those other Auburn players, Heron’s numbers were better than the other 2. I think he had every bit of a claim to All SEC. That said, I think Heron is a shoe-in for All Big East honors if and when he’s eligible and that’s a good thing for us and really bad for others.

We’ll disagree. Didn’t say 1st or 2nd team, but based on his Auburn stats, he should be on teams 3 - 5, if eligible.

Chicago, one of the things we habitually do here is overhype our incoming players. Aside from the fact that MH is not yet eligible so logically excluded from pre-season rankings, Eric Paschall, the best returning player on national champ Villanova, is on Dickie V's Fifth team. These are the top 25 non-freshman players in the country (he inexplicably excludes freshman), so no real surprise we only have one player on this list. I don't have a problem with it, although I agree it is possible MH winds up deserving it when all is said and done.

I hear you NCJ. We absolutely over-rate our incoming guys! But Mustapha is a legit D1 player, with 2 very good years at Auburn, and a leader on that team.
I think that'll be the case: IF he plays, he'll be one of the top players in the BEC and maybe 'more.
Meanwhile, hoping like heck, he gets the waiver!

I’m also gonna go out and say that I think Dixon and Figueroa are gonna be killers from day 1. Dixon lit it up last year in D1, even as a rookie. Figureroa is a rare smooth forward with the whole package. I don’t think we are a pretender this year like SJU fans are used to. I think we are deep and gonna be a nightmare for other teams...

It's almost 20 years since we have won a NCAA tourney game and won the Big East. That's a LONG time especially considering how much talent has passed through our gates. We are really long overdue for a wildly successful season...even in 2011 which was insane success by our recent standards, we just died out after a bad luck injury to a key player. Having a top 25, sweet 16 type year would thrust us back into the national spotlight and it would be like seeing a huge fountain of cold drinking water after being stranded in a dessert for the fanbase. The motto this year really should be "no excuses".

Seton Hall sucked for a while and they've recently done more than we have in 20 years. PC sucked for a while and they've been way better than we have in the last 20 years. It's our time to shine. Having a great season will really invigorate our program and our campus and I truly believe our new AD will be able to parlay that into more positive things for us. Making the NCAAT is not easy but it's not insanely hard either...plenty of teams do regularly and it's not that big a deal really. We only make it seem that way because of how rarely we make it. Just once I want to be that team that gets into the tourney, finds a way to win the first round and slays a giant in the 2nd to reach the sweet 16.

And yet the folks who vote for those awards, who've seen him far more than pretty much everybody on this board, besides a select few, did not deem his accomplishments sufficient to be in the top 16 players in the SEC. Doesn't mean he's bad, just that others were deemed better. I trust their opinions a tad more than even yours Marcus. Nothing personal. Also makes it hard to justify putting him in the top 25 in the country as well, no matter what Chicago Days says. I hope he's eligible. I hope he's great. I hope he's on these lists in March.

I 'think' I recall commentary on Heron 'to the effect' that he was unfairly evaluated by SEC 'coaches' and others who vote for their conference all star teams.
I also recall reading one Auburn fan--a commentator or Tiger Loyalist of some repute--who said 'something like' that Heron was the one guy he did not want to see leave.
Didn't Mustapha lead the Tigers in scoring last season, and isn't he one of the few who scored over1,000 points for them in his first two years?
I agree my views on Heron may be an 'outlier', and arbitrary as all player evaluations inevitably are.
And i agree that I too, hope like hell he is eligible and is great and is on all these lists post season--as you do.

If Heron becomes eligible and is the Player he was at Auburn stats wise , we could challenge for one of the top 3 slots in the regular season BE . Ponds will have a great opportunity to showcase his other skills , beyond just scoring and he has that capability . He will not have to be all things like he was last year . Scoring , Rebounding , Playmaking , Shooting Percentage improvement are the categories the NBA Scouts want to see from Shamorie . The supporting cast this season will be capable of putting 5 decent players on the Court at all times . First time Mullin has the depth and skill of a legit BE Roster . It looks promising .

WE DID NOT GET MUCH FROM OWENS,HE BLOCKED SHOTS BUT HIS OVERALL DEFENSE WAS below average for a big center . He did not fair well when he went up against big bodies Think we get more from Keita ,
