2018 Big Ten Tourney to MSG

I realize that but I'm sure that the ACC would rather be at MSG. I think we have contact until 2026 but think it's contingent on certain number of tickets being sold. All I'm saying is that with the big ten playing a week earlier, and the ACC tourney being played at the same time as the big east tourney, this could eat into our ticket sales.
It's not something that should be ignored,

It's not hard to split up 19k seats between 10 teams. And that's before corporate sponsors and such chip into say a couple thousand on their own.

Selling out the BET is not difficult. The problem is that people only stay to watch their team and too many seats are empty. We need to keep the place packed. It looks better and it keeps concession sales up. That is importnt to MSG.

As for the other conferences, as long as they aren't willing to be here every year, they won't take over MSG. They aren't gonna kick us out for a once every four years tenant.

Same is the case for pretty much every conference tournament. Especially the ones that get cute and make them farther away from the nucleus. ACC is packed when its Duke and UNC but when its UVA and Miami its empty.

We're building a brand from the start really again. And no we need to turn the last two days of the tournament into must see theater. But I am really not concerned with the Garden. My only concern with the Garden is our pushover admin who continues to bend over while MSG brings in other games every time I turn around.

If I'm the Big 10, no way I do this. They have to rearrange the regular-season schedule completely to finish a week early, and then they sit around for a week one of the most exciting weeks of the season. And I know we all love the Garden and NYC, but it's not like the Big 10 doesn't have good options in major venues -- Chicago, DC, Indy etc. Their fans are going to have to travel well, because they better not count on Rutgers and Maryland fans to fill the place. Dumb move.

They will sit around and wait like most of the cinderella teams do.

Respect your read on this Moose, but how much leverage would SJU administration have with MSG? With a consistently high quality team, would our leverage increase? Thx

“I worry about it from a physical standpoint. I worry about it depending on where the NCAA sends you. I worry about it from a financial standpoint for parents and families” – Michigan State basketball coach Tom Izzo, on the Big Ten holding its '17 and '18 championships in DC and N.Y., respectively (DETROIT FREE PRESS, 12/9).

Probably none :)

But the seem to sit by idle. There is probably some creative way out there to prevent it. Of course us putting more fannies in the seats is 1. Paying a higher guarantee to prevent other teams from playing is also a possibility but not something they would do.

The relationship between the two parties hasn't been the same for awhile. I dont know why exactly but I'm sure many factors come into play. Including us playing at other venues.

I don't think anything we do has any bearing on the Garden's decision as to what teams and tournaments it allows to play there. They are a business venture and have spent an astronomical sum on renovating MSG. They are in a major city where big events are occuring all the time. The would be foolish not to rent the space out as much as possible.

Unless we can do like Kentucky and field two squads, then get the NCAA to allow us to play ourselves every night, there is no way we are gonna keep other teams out of the Garden.

This was before renovation. We sucked and they were annoyed how long we stuck with Norm as attendance nose dived. We still paid our rent because we still broke even though we had such pitiful numbers.

It's similar to an exclusive. While they will not grant an exclusive a smart savvy businessperson can work it in. 2K, NIT and Jimmy V aren't going anywhere. Coaches vs. Cancer jumped to Brooklyn. I mean the Gotham Classic with Pepperdine, NC State, West Virginia and Richmond? And then a random Gtown game against Indiana two days after Xmas. It's more those random ones than any of the baked tournaments.

Cuse AD Gross is one of the smartest guys out there. He won't sacrifice a home game. But every year pretty much Cuse is in one of the MSG tournaments. Which usually guarantees him 2 games in the Worlds Most Famous. When they play us a 3rd game then.
