I'm starting to wonder the same, in regards to possibly having to replace him.[/quote]

Dink, why would Owens leave? He's still going to get plenty of playing time next year. The same with Clark. Why would they leave? I don't get it.

Clark is not going anywhere. Period!
Owens, another player under his dad's thumb, would only leave if he accumulated the credits to graduate and only because we have been actively recruiting above him. I was confident he could be a grad transfer candidate when they got a commitment from Brooks but he may have gotten a reprieve from being benched for now. I don't think his dad sees him as being a complimentary bench player which is how he ended up at St. John's in the first place.

I hope Owens stays as you can't teach long and athletic and coordinated. Since you also can't fix his thin frame, asking him to play a lot of minutes against a beast like Delgado doesn't suit his style of play or lack of muscle. As a 20-25 minute player, he can be fresh enough to use his strengths and be a solid contributor. As for Delgado, if the NBA doesn't work out, there is always the WWE. Let's see how he does throwing those elbows with Brock Lesnar on the receiving end. Better not accidentally connect or he will find himself in a shoot match with the reigning, defending undisputed champion. And I always thought that Rick Flair was the dirtiest player in the game.

I've only seen a few players improve as much as Owens as a basketball player. He's got some physical limitations but I have a hard time believing that he or his father are anything less than thrilled by his transformation from his days at TN to today.

Concur.

Clark is actually in my mind a future Mullin type player. A guy who sits on the wings and can bang threes at a good clip. This is actually an ideal place for Clark to be playing

my personal belief is that although Ponds is All-World for us, when he is not sharing the ball well we lose, and other players are frustrated. This will only magnify next year if it doesn't change. I don't think that their is a johnnie fan on here who doesn't want Owens back. Guys-hes the leading shot blocker! Imagine him next season playing the 4 or 3 coming on the weak side for blocks. He, like all our current starters NEED to stay for us to improve.

Where is this coming from?

It's all speculation. Period.
Why? Because Marvin Clark is guaranteed his starting spot, just as is Justin Simon. Keita, unless we get a talented big transfer, appears to be the big body we need inside.
Why Owens in this crystal ball speculation? Because he doesn't play inside on offense, his natural position is the position Clark will be playing and most importantly his father wants the ball in his hands on the offense. Why is the dad integral to the speculation? Because fathers have unrealistic expectations as was evidenced by the departure of Ellison and LoVett.
Had Brooks signed and not reneged Owens spot was going to Brooks and I'm sure that's how the deal was being brokered. Everyone here is correct in that Owens is a 20 minute player but will his dad accept that? To top it all off, this staff is desperate for talent and knows next year is a make or break 4th season. Other than Ponds, Simon and Clark, everyone else is expendable. That's how Calipari and anyone else recruits.

72' i usually agree with you as i feel we see eye to eye. On this however, I disagree. I don't think its fair to lump Owens in with those other guys. He sat out a year, worked tirelessly on his game ( plenty of summer vids were shown), and has been a great teammate and representative of SJU. His Pop wants his Sr year to keep on with his progress not go backwards. I personally think T.O. will benefit from coming in and playing all 3 big positions. He is the leading BE shot blocker, terrific on the high post and roll ( when that play is actually designed ), and has a decent shot for a big. Any loss from any of our present starters will be a blow, especially T.O. a proven BE big. As much as Shamorie has been off the charts, he is more valuable to the team when sharing the ball as much as taking his own shot. As Shamories stock continues to rise, I see him as gone- a late 1st rounder. So now look at our team if we lose Shamorie, T.O, and Ahmed. Back to rebuilding again and again.......something needs to change and its not the players. They actually need to STAY!

I think the entire team will benefit from some capable newcomers, giving everyone a chance to catch their breath.
