2016-17 Redshirt Juniors - Top Rebounders

Any other local bigs uncommitted worth a look?

Isaac Kante from Brooklyn, although it looks like we are not recruiting him.

Ironically, unlike Derrick Walker, he was offered by Kansas State.

FYI Isaac is a Brooklyn kid who went to Robeson High and played for former Robeson standout and West Virginia guard Todd Myles. It should be noted that he was a full qualifier out of Robeson but is playing this season at Putnam Science strictly for exposure purposes. He's a kid with a big body and lots of energy and toughness. I have not seen him at the prep level so I can't give a full eval, but based on what I saw at Robeson he was a kid with lots of upside, wish I had a more recent look at him

I haven't seen Isaac play at PSA either but while we are throwing names out there ,PSA also has a 2017 6'11 kid Malik Ondingo who has some high major offers as well. Matt is going to turn over every stone now for some size next year. it's a shame the staff has something against the French :)

I wanted to fix the list I made a couple of weeks ago to make it more realistic. So, I took out guys like Motley (Baylor), Williams (TCU), Thompson (Ohio State), and other guys we would probably not look at. I cut it down to the 5 best players possible for our situation, and added a few new names to the list.

1. Marin Maric (Northern Illinois)
6-11/250
13.6ppg - 7.7rpg

2. DeShawn Freeman (Rutgers)
6-7/225
11.0ppg - 8.0rpg

3. Jalen Hayes (Oakland)
6-7/213
15.4ppg - 7.7rpg

4. Nura Zanna (LIU-Brooklyn)
6-7/240
9.0ppg - 8.5rpg

5. Ronald Delph (Florida-Atlantic)
7-0/245
8.4ppg - 7.0rpg

If you could sign a 6'9, 230+ guy who averaged 13.3 and 6.1 (and 3.4 bpg), but had an issue that resulted in him being booted off his team -- but not out of school or arrested -- would you do it?

That's exactly what we're lookin for, but I mean I think it depends on what he did and if the staff felt like he would not be a potential problem for the program. Also depends on the competition. Is this a real guy? Lol

Austin Nichols

It is a real guy: Austin Nichols. Started at Memphis, transferred to Virginia, booted after one game there. It would appear that he can transfer immediately, and I assume could have two years of eligibility if he convinced the NCAA that he deserved the one he lost this season.

I don't think I would take Austin Nichols. He didn't work at 2 programs.

He didn't have an issue at Memphis as far as I know other than wanting a release, and suing for it. Virginia issue unknown.

And this is the type kid Matt would have had on the radar at Iowa St., which is why I mentioned him in the first place. Wouldn't be shocked at all if he's got him on a list.

Yea, I just figured it out. I don't know though, he's obviously a great player who could bring us over the top, but his past shows that his head doesn't seem to be in it. I wouldn't be mad if they went after him or they didn't though, if the staff feels he's worth the risk they should go for it.

As long as he didnt get caught on tape robbing a cvs I'd take him

And I'd say that things are pointing to Clark being a leader and stabilizing influence in the locker room so I don't mind taking a flyer on a kid and then worry about chemistry. But then again I didnt worry about chemistry in high school either which caused me some problems

Also Nichols was a drama major ( no joke ) so what better place to play than close to Broadway

"Confirmed that former Four-star center Nick Marshall will not be coming back to the Memphis Tigers. Not a shock."

Former top 100 recruit. Left Memphis program right before the season started. 6'10 230 pounds looks good. Numbers from freshman season aren't great but he did play in every game. Also a plus that he will have 3 years of eligibility and should be able to play immediately.

Sounds just like what the doctor ordered.

Left school to become a daddy. Tweet was from last summer and no one has heard from him since.
So, what is the new news on him, if any?

The tweet was from yesterday from a person at 247sports. I just threw it out there as someone that could be a great option because of his size, he's immediately available and he has 3 years of eligibility left.

from a website "The Commercial Appeal Part of the USA Today Network":

"Former Memphis forward Nick Marshall resurfaced last week with an Instagram post in which he wrote: Miss Memphis so much. Who would like to see me back in Memphis?"

If you don’t remember Marshall, he is a former top 100 recruit from the 2015 recruiting class that announced he was leaving Memphis last August after averaging 3.1 points and 2.7 rebounds as a freshman. He landed at Motlow State, a junior college in Tullahoma, but then did not play for Motlow this season.

After speaking with people at Memphis, the conclusion I got is that the ship has sailed on Marshall. He burned some bridges on his way out the door last August when he failed to respond to Smith’s phone calls and didn’t show up to offseason workouts. Though he could probably provide some immediate help in the frontcourt next year, I don’t believe the Tigers will consider taking him back. Not to mention, from what I understand, academic eligibility would be a hurdle for him to overcome as well.

I realize patience is wearing thin with some Memphis fans that aren’t accustomed to three-straight years without an NCAA tournament, but Smith is trying to build a foundation. He’s not looking for a quick fix.

I don't care if Trump himself retweeted it, he left Memphis last summer and if you had dug a little deeper like OTIS you would see this guy has a ton of issues, has not played since last year, and would be as big of a gamble and waste of time as Zach Brown was. If M&M have to resort to recruiting 4 star headaches then the future is bleaker than some may think. I'm fairly confident that the first priority is keeping the major contributors and the second is a grad transfer. A guy like Marshall after a guy named Brown will be a red flag.

I agree 100% and hopefully Matt A doesn't follow him on Twitter. I am sure someone knows if he does.

To be clear there are no indications yet that the staff is recruiting either of the ex Memphis bigs.
