2015/2016 Lineups

I know, I know - it's still very early to start projecting starting lineups since we still have 1 scholarship left to give, and we have to wait and see if both Sima and LoVett qualify. But I'm bored at work so what the heck.

PG: LoVett
SG: Jordan
SF: Johnson
PF: Williams
C: Obekpa

First 3 of the bench: Alibegovic/M'Vouika/Ellison
Limited roles (5-10 mpg): Balamou/Jones/Sima

Anyone seeing this differently?

Looks about right.

G: Archie Bunker
G: Jalen Brunson
F: Josh Hart
F: Chris Jenkins
C: Daniel Ochefu

How would we match up with nova?

Who cares? We made the tournament this year getting blown out by nova twice. Let's do it again

Think you missed my point.
nova doesn't scare me this year.

Has the LoVett's signing changed your mind on where we finish in the Conference?

It changed my mind. My concern wasn't rebounding or size it was a point guard. Rysheed running the point 40 minutes a game wasn't gonna work and I'm not a huge fan of Mussinis game when it comes to running the point. Lovett changes things in a big way

Getting ahead of ourselves with this thread, I think.

Rankings and reports are nice, but I'm pretty sure that the players who produce (and play well together) will be the ones who play. Wouldn't surprise me if there are some surprises in there.

Not much. Still see them having trouble scoring.
Just don't think nova is what they were.
Butler and G'town, on the other hand, will be real good.

I look forward to Arch trying to stay in front of LoVett.

He's white and scrappy, which means he'll draw the most bullshit charging calls ever. LoVett will have to throw a spin move in at the last second.

Can't wait to see Lovett break Arci's ankles with a crossover. I'm expecting this to be Rysheeds last year. With Marcus at point, Jordan can do what he does best, I'm expecting a huge year from him.
There was no one on the previous staff that knows the game like our legend Chris Mullin.

I can't wait to see this team play as well, but refuse to say that I wish it was november, as that would mean the summer is over and winter is almost here. lol
I'm a patient man.

The Lovett signing is fantastic news for the team, especially for building continuity over the next few years.

Shorter term...I never like relying on freshmen to be "difference makers." Put him up against Kris Dunn, D'Vauntes Smith Rivera, Billy Garrett Jr, Arcidiacano, etc and he's going to have his hands full.

Still, at the very least we're going to be competitive this season, which is much more than I had hoped for a couple months ago.

If everyone is eligible, and things mesh, with the talent we have now I think we can be more than just competitive. I think if everything breaks right, we can fourth in the league behind Villanova, Georgetown and Butler. We would be fighting Xavier, Providence and Marquette for that fourth spot, but I think we can do it if things go our way.

I see sima getting more minutes than Amar

I'm not too sure about this. There were a few games in there that I really liked what I saw from Alibegovic. He showed a nice shot and a willingness to fight for rebounds. Definitely looked like a chicken without a head at other times, but I really do think there's potential there. IMO, he's going to end up being a very solid four year player for St. John's.

From what I've read about Sima, he's more of a Gorgui Dieng type of player. A guy with a ton of upside, but may need some time adjusting to the college game.

He's a cocky kid because he knows that he's real good, so I don't think that he'll shy away from top competition.

This is right where I see us. There is a big drop off after the top three. We should be better than Xavier--who I think will be a solid bubble team. We're bigger with more scoring ability.

LoVett might be a great HS player, but you're absolutely right. He's going to be up against some of the best PG's in the country and the safe bet is that he's going to struggle (especially in the beginning). Those are proven upperclassmen who are used to the pressure of playing college ball. How's he going to respond when there are 19k hostile Villanova fans screaming at you on the road?

But what a job Mullin and his assistants have done with this class. Outside for RySheed and Obekpa, next year's team was devoid of talent. To help in the short term, the staff added Durand and Mvouika (who is intriguing to me based on his JUCO stats). And in the long term, we have a nice group of LoVett, Sima, Ellison & Williams. With solid recruiting years in 2016 and 2017, you could be looking at an excellent team.
