1986 Big East Final

The video at the start of this thread gives you Mike Gorman and Ron Perry's Big East Network call of the game. Here's ESPN's broadcast, featuring Len Berman and Bill Raftery.

So, I'm guessing the Big East Network feed was for Syracuse and NYC customers who didn't have cable at the time? That broadcast would have been on either channel 9 or channel 11? That would be the only way that having two broadcasts made sense.

Have recording of that feed at home. So much better. The Raff was on his A game that night. Awesome call by both and very good play by play by Berman who is a Syracuse grad. Well done

I have a preference for Gorman's call, just love hearing the game end with the words "ST. JOHN'S WINS!!!" :p

Marco Baldi played a huge role in the win. Gave us 6 points in short span and really got an already juiced fan base (we had one when we consistently winning during 80s) going. Reminded me of similar performance that year. Sid Fernandez in game 7 of World Series with Mets trailing by 3 runs. Both performances changed momentum of game IMHO.

Fun times but way too few over the last 30 years for both.

Just my opinion, but I always thought Gorman was a bore to listen to, plus he always seemed to favor the Cuse, BC, and UCONN over us.

Gorman was doing Celtics games even back then, so a lean towards BC (and the New England teams as a whole), was only natural.

Berman and Raftery were definitely more of a "New York" crew. I don't know when Raf started doing the Nets, but that gig allowed him to do a lot of St. John's (and obviously, Seton Hall) games.
