I see him as a 3/4 and a major contributor. Will definitely play starter minutes imho.
starter minutes:
Ok, got it. I don't think I would call it antics Tom, but more a very well known aspect of his coaching style. Sim was not the first, and won't be the last freshman with limited minutes. I think all of our incoming freshmen are aware of how much time freshmen get to play for coach.
I just find it quite unusual that a coaching style would predetermine minutes played. Louie made the same mistake, likely killing any chance the '85 team had. Mike Moses should never had started over Mark Jackson.

soph Jackson over Moses was not changing the Georgetown results

Putting Rowan and Jackson on floor would have countered the box and one on Mullin. More shooters. More ball movement. Lou never tried it.
As Alumni Hall mentioned in another thread, Rowan was supposed to do just that in the final four however got injured the practice before. He was not able to play due to the injury.

I had no idea. Thanks for the info. But Lou had four games v Gt that year. He had no excuse for not trying the Rowan/ Jackson shooter move in first three games.

He didn’t have to the first one as we did win it and the Box and One nor the Triangle and a Two were not used by Georgetown in that game.

IMO Moses was just as good a shooter as Jackson in that season and Jackson was at such a disadvantage playing against the quick Geo. guards I can see Looies strategy but go back a couple of years when he played Bobby Kelly over Kevin Williams and that’s a different story.
Looie felt he had to have complete control over his point guard.

We had four games against them. Lost last three big. Lou did not adapt. No excuses.
I know they played four, I was there for all of them. They won the first one. Quoting you: “ He had no excuse for not trying the Rowan/ Jackson shooter move in first three games.” My point was he didn’t have to because we won the first game. My previous point was there was to be a change with Rowan in the National Semifinal but he got injured the practice before the game.

Recall that we lead in that first game by 18 and barely hung on to win by one so in the last 3 1/2 games Hoyas outscored us by like 72 points.

Fair enough but we both know JT, may he rest in peace , was a great defensive coach and would pull new wrinkles out of his bag of tricks , which in fact he did and we did not.
We tried the same thing over and over for 4 games straight and the last 3 were hard to watch.

You are correct. It took Lou three games to decide to use Rowan and by then he was injured. Just because we won first game does not mean he should have not used Rowan differently in that game. But even if you give Lou a pass on first game, he had two games to adjust and did not. No coach needs four games to make obvious adjustment. And games were not close. He could have made in game adjustments as well.

I loved Lou. He gave us a great run. But he failed to adjust. I concede the adjustment may not have worked. But more Jackson and Rowan gave us a better shot.

I was there for all four games as well.

Lou became complacent with his lineup given our success that year. But the Gt games were never in doubt. They thoroughly and consistently beat us. And Lou never adjusted, rolling out the same game plan. Just look at success Jackson and Rowan had when given an opportunity. Mike Moses was a great Johnnie. But he averaged only 4 fga and less than 6 pts a game, only 2 fta per game. He was not a threat driving or outside. We needed two guys to take pressure off Mullin.

IMO, Louie was just not an “adjustment” for better or worse, just the way it was.

I have long thought that in 85 , Louie did not get the most and best use out of Berry .
True it was Mullin’s team but , Walter was a tremendous College player and had the kind of unconventional game that could have gotten Ewing in foul trouble .
I don’t recall if Berry was in foul trouble against the Hoyas but , just felt he didn’t get the ball often enough with Mullin being hounded by Wingate .
I am also part of the Jackson over Moses team
. Mark was a savvy enough passer to cause trouble for the Box and 1.

Even in that defense , Ewing would have had difficulty dealing with both, Wennington and Berry getting the ball from Mark .
Lastly , all criticism isn’t on Looie . He had Mahoney and Rutledge on the Bench supposedly to advise .

And , we all know Looie would rather have a root canal than play Zone against the Hoyas . He should have tried it . Thompson wouldn’t have planned for it .

Mahoney was his trusted advisor. Bingo.
