One official practice in the books before the #SJUBB Euro Tour! The fellas are looking good. More on the tour and the team this week! #stjbb

Really can't wait for this season. Think we can be excellent!

Sorry this is random and it's nothing we haven't heard yet but, I was talking SJU hoops over my lunch break today with a guy who knows someone who has been watching Sanchez both at Monroe and now at SJU. Word is that he is "the whole package" and "the real deal". Can pass, shoot, rebound, and has an offensive arsenal in his post game. So excited to see how we turn out. We are so talented that even an injury (or suspension) won't totally kill us like last year. This team is crazy deep.

I have to say it again. Everyone makes Sanchez sound like Walter Berry.

The JC transfer with unlimited talent.

Sorry but I don't see it that way at all.
Walter was a great player on two teams that had a bunch of very talented players on them, many of whom played in the league. Sanchez is a good and could be a very good player who has a very well rounded game. He is unique in his skill set and brings something to the court which we are lacking. Too bad he couldn't play last season when GG was redshirted. I will say it over and over but it is frightening how deep we are this season at each and every position.

Interesting old article on the truth. He is my favorite St. John's player of all-time.

Like redmannorth stated.... I don't see it that way, either.

People are just stating that Sanchez has a solid, all-around game that will pay dividends for us this season. His passing and ballhandling will certainly come in handy, as I feel those probably are his best assets.

More like Justin Brownlee than Walter Berry. Solid, not a Wooden nominee.

Good thing from Chris Obekpa is the guy got big. Cannon arms. Jump shot is smoother. Inside post game non existent. Once that happens NBA.

Between Sampson, Obekpa, Sanchez, and God's Gift, the front court is going to be fine. I know it seems like he's the forgotten man at times, but I'm even excited to see how Christian Jones progresses over this season. He showed glimpses last year that he could be a productive player at this level.

But what this season will come down to is shooting. I've said it before and I'll say it again, if the team does not improve its shooting from last year, we are all going to be disappointed in 2013-'14. I'm hoping that with the addition of Jordan and Hooper, as well as the return of Harrison, that our shooting will be more efficient. Cause watching the team shoot the basketball last year was just painful.

I think it will depend on improvement in both shooting and rebounding. I am hopeful, but then I've been hopeful for twenty years. It will be fun one way or the other. Amazing, the range of opinion about this year's potential.

thanks for posting that article....
I had forgotten the details of his journey to us.
It is a reminder both of how far back we had issues with the NCAA and how difficult
managing young talents, like Berry and Harrison, can be for a coaching staff.

Probably goes back even further, before NCAA rule changes, to when Coach Lapchick took an NCAA eligible SJU team to the NIT, turning down the new big dance for what used to be the bigger dance. I think it was either 60 or 61.

We cant use the inexperience excuse anymore. We cant say we don't have legit talent either. Is this the year we break through and start a consistent run of NCAAs? Theoretically it should be. We just need to make sure we win the games we are supposed to (UNC Ashville for example), then we should be ok.

Tom Stith reminded me of Walter Berry; so smooth inside and soft touches.
