It’s Hopkins. But I recognize that Coach Pitino may have a better understanding of his team.
Edit: Zuby/Hopkins is (on paper) the best power front court duo for SJU since ________. (Fill in the blank)
Artest/Grant

I remember being so irrationally excited for the potential of Steere... lolGood one..
Or Josh Roberts/ Damien Sears/ Ian Steere
Exactly. We're going to be able to score, if we can play the switching D like last season this team has the potential to be lethal.May not be the best exercise to over evaluate game stats from a intra squad scrimmage. Much like a February Grapefruit League boxscore. Having 5 potent scorers, with 3 that can break you down can be lethal. Then go back to traditional sets with Darling is a nice change of pace. Get the defense right, look out.
I’m thinking that CRP is envisioning Jackson and Sellers as “guards”. Think Earl Monroe and Clyde Frazier with the Knicks. With Sellers as Clyde and Ian as Earl. No true point guard, but lead guards.
For you younger fans think Kyrie Irving and James Harden with the Brooklyn Nets.
As long as they share and play defense, CRP will take our team very far.
I can’t wait.
Doesn’t this have the feel when a MLB team uses the expression “closer by committee”, which really means you don’t have a closer? IMO, we can dive into this position-less basketball, motion offense, etc, all we want but I want a strong PG who can settle the team down when needed, set others up in advantageous positions to score and play solid D while being able to shoot/score when needed. Remember what happen to our team when Kadary fouled out and no one could get us into a flow on offense. This team does not have that it appears unless Darling is that, which would be unexpected. This, and how they click on D, is going to be a big reason if we sink or swim this year. But all we can do is have faith in Coach to mold this team into what it can be because we all agree the talent is there.Well 3 of the 4 guys you mention were point guards, just scoring point guards, and some of the best ever at that.
Listening to CRP's interview it's clear that he expects the entire team to move, move the ball and run positionless basketball once they cross the mid court line. He said multiple times he expects Oziah to be competent at getting it across half court and then make the first pass after that it's motion offense and no plays. Does that mean he doesn't feel the need for a true PG or does it mean he's adjusting to not having a true starting PG. The biggest concern is is Oziah, or anyone for that matter, going to be able to attack full court pressure.
I agree CBA69. I think Lefty becomes very important this season as we really only have Darling as true PG. Lefty also already has one year in the system. He knows the offense. If Darling can start at PG and Lefty can give us 5-8 quality minutes as the back up, that would solve the only issue that I could see this team having.Do you believe Dylan should be the starting point guard? I do. Referring back to what sju79# posted about the team not meshing yet, I think Dylan is the missing piece. This would leave Lefty on the bench who has point guard experience and Sellers on the bench for instant offense. This would also leave Jackson free to do what he does best. Any thoughts?
Problem is that while I think they are both cerebral enough to man the point for us, they'll eventually run into equally cerebral kids who can also abuse them with their athleticism. If Darling can start at PG and Lefty can give us 5-8 quality minutes as the back up, that would solve the only issue that I could see this team having.
Fair point. Teams are going to press us like crazy without a bonafide PG on the floor. That’s a real concern.Problem is that while I think they are both cerebral enough to man the point for us, they'll eventually run into equally cerebral kids who can also abuse them with their athleticism.
I like both kids, but I think we'll find out pretty quickly if we should have tried harder/overpaid for Acaden Lewis.Fair point. Teams are going to press us like crazy without a bonafide PG on the floor. That’s a real concern.
Nothing has convinced me that they've done enough at PG this offseason, given where we are for every other position.I like both kids, but I think we'll find out pretty quickly if we should have tried harder/overpaid for Acaden Lewis.
It's not my business to tell a billionaire what to do with his money, but when the rest of the roster looks like this, I personally may have pushed all my chips to the center and given Boogie $6m-$7m.
The only way Lefty plays significant minutes in a game this year is if half the team is out with the flu.I agree CBA69. Time will tell but from what I’ve seen, read and heard it seems that Ayo and Lefty are likely going to be competing for the 10 and 11 spots in the rotation. I just don’t see Lefty being part of the point guard solution this year.I agree CBA69. I think Lefty becomes very important this season as we really only have Darling as true PG. If Pitino wants Darling to start at PG, he's orchestrating a major headfake! He has just pronounced Sellers -a guy who has never played a second at PG in college- as the starting PG. That's after his first choice at starting PG, Jackson- another guy who has never played a second at PG- was deemed unsuitable for the position. Pitino's good at playing mind games, but I suspect this is a case of swinging and missing on multiple PG transfer targets and Darling's coming off the bench because he's not ready for prime time.If Darling can start at PG and Lefty can give us 5-8 quality minutes as the back up, that would solve the only issue that I could see this team having.
