Keeping Up With Old Friends Thread

I still hate the Celtics though.
Celtics fan since the fall of '57. Went to a pro doubleheader disguised as a Knick fan at the old MSG (Celts vs pre Wilt Warriors, Knicks vs George Yardley Pistons) and there were three teams playing one game and the Celts with Russell, Cousy, Sharman, Heinsohn, Loscutoff, and Frank Ramsey playing something much more refined and efficient. Went to NYU undergrad and then came Satch. Knew Mal Graham at NYU and he was a Celtics #1 pick as well.

It’s alright, I still like you.

Great time meeting up with SJU85, IDRAFT and Ejoyce tonight. Credit to SJU85 for going to his church meeting tonight after having some drinks at Novita

Forgot to take a pic but plenty to come this season

Funny thing of the night Ejoyce Dad and SJU85 as a kid lived blocks from each other apparently

Wasn’t exactly a church meeting but will go with that. Based on an announcement made at the meeting (we are losing a key member of our organization), I went home afterwards and had a couple more.

Sorry I missed the get together, had a crazy busy work week, hopefully next time I'll be available....

Walter Berry inducted into the class of 2025

🏀 Congratulations to Walter “The Truth” Berry selected into The Bronx Basketball Hall of Fame Class of 2025! 🏀

Born and raised in the Highbridge section of the Bronx, Walter Berry made his mark early at Benjamin Franklin High School, where in 1982 he led his team to both the PSAL and New York State Championships.

Berry continued his dominance at San Jacinto College and later at St. John’s University, where he became one of the most decorated players in school history. In 1986, he was named First Team All-American and voted College Player of the Year.

That same year, Berry was selected in the first round of the NBA Draft by the Portland Trail Blazers. He went on to play for the New Jersey Nets, San Antonio Spurs, and Houston Rockets before taking his incredible talent overseas — where he averaged over 35 points per game and became a legend across Europe.

In our eyes, Walter “The Truth” Berry remains one of the greatest power forwards ever to come out of the Bronx.

He will be inducted Thursday November 6th at Villa Barone Manor.

Walter was indeed The Truth. Who can forget that quirky awkward shot that had no chance whatsoever to go in but usually did. Was also a great rebounder.

Truly one of the best to ever play here. I remember that when he was down there at St. Jacinto (where we "parked" him), us fans were on pins and needles hoping that he would not decide to go elsewhere. If I recall correctly, there was talk he might. But I believe that Ron Rutledge spent more than a few days and nights down there keeping tabs on him, and when he finally reached campus, the entire fandom breathed a collective sigh of relief. And, we were oh so close to winning a NC with him and Chris et al.... (curses to Ewing and GU).

Congratulations to Walter.
