Transfer Portal

Agree 100%. Some posters are "Fake As Fuck". It is as if you don't realize that we are talking about the lives of young men. As Boo said, definitely not trash to be thrown away. Yes the team did not reach the heights that we all wanted, and I too, am disappointed. However, the ridicule and venom being directed towards these young men is unwarranted. Posh, for instance, has busted his ass for St Johns for three years and y'all are ready to kick him to the curb, GTFOH.

Wonder how many of y'all would still be in relationships if your wives or girlfriends cut you loose after a poor sexual performance. Maybe I'm wrong, and all y'all are "60 Minute Men"'
I agree up to that very last part. For that, I say speak for yourself. 😀

What he will do is recruit players that fit his system, something we haven’t had since well never. Louie played his style no matter who he had.
But I agree some on here are getting a little carried away.
Understandable though.
very understandable. We just gotta find a balance between getting carried away and also not trashing our guys from the past couple years. Yes we all hope and expect the team is more talented next season but I've never been a fan of the phrase "don't let the door hit you on the way out" in reference to guys who competed for this school for multiple seasons and played hard the whole time.

I'd save that phrase for a guy like Andre Curbelo who was disrespectful and careless about his time here.

Even with Curbelo stuff, if Pitino thinks he fits he will have a spot. Again great coach but not Knight or Iba type disciplinarian.

I am a huge Pitino fan. Had bomb squad poster on wall as a kid. Still can’t believe he is coaching here. He is on my MT Rushmore of College coaches I have seen in my lifetime: Pitino, Coach K, Wright, Dean Smith.
With that being said I am still curious to see if he can recruit HERE. Because not sure anyone can. But besides that though admittedly not a HS recruiting expert, I don’t remember Pitino getting the top kids anyway. At least not at Providence and Louisville. Possibly did at Kentucky. Thought that was one of the things that separated him was he wasn’t consistently getting the upper echelon kids and was still super successful?

My point with all that is I am a little dubious that he will be able to “throw away” talent and be able to replace in his first year. This is specific to Posh and Jones.
With NIL and Repole….ANYTHING IS POSSSSSSSSIBLE (Garnett voice)!

Just to be clear, I meant in terms of recruiting new guys. Posh is a Johnny through and through, I really hope he commits to pitino vision and stays. Same with Jones. If not I wish them both well and will be especially sad to see posh go. He committed to us when no one else of his caliber from NY was.

Nice to have u back posting.

Pitino is already out the door this morning going to recruit Boogie and others. That leads me to believe he met w/ all the current players yesterday and let them know where they stand. I am expecting a few SJU players to be entering the portal at some point today.

I've been having the same thoughts after seeing all the chatter about us with Ian Jackson and Boogie Fland.

Pitino's a legend, but I also don't know if that is going to immediately translate to us getting top 20 guys consistently. It feels like everyone is excited and has convinced themselves the team will be loaded with 5 star transfers immediately, and the team will be too good for Posh or a David Jones.

I am not so sure about that. But gotta let it play out of course.

Also when it comes to guys like Posh, Wusu, and Jones. These are guys who have played in the Big East for several years now and I feel like that matters. I keep thinking back to Lavin's first team and the experience factor there
Extremely rational and objective post.

But you still have that lifetime supply of Shafer's in your basement eh?

It is the one beer to have when you’re out to have some fun

One of my all time favorite commercials. The guy who says "Yeah, let's give him the business." and later says "Sing" was a friend of my fathers.

So anyone from last year's team in the portal yet?

A-freakin-men. This has been bothering me since Pitino said we would need 6-8 new players and people on here gleefully started throwing kids off the team. It was a bit ghoulish to see people who have supposedly rooted for these guys for years immediately shovel dirt on their graves now that they see a chance to "upgrade" the roster. These are the same folks who if they won the lottery would leave their spouse the next day for the first better looking person who showed any amount of interest.

Going to be interesting to see how this fanbase deals with success, that's for sure.

We have this movie before - in reverse. Two years ago, after what most of felt was a pretty good season, a bunch of guys (including some who played major minutes) transferred out. It was their choice, and almost all of them did well as a result. They ended up in good situations and finished their respective careers very well.

The same will happen this year, but it will be Pitino's choice and not theirs. I hope it will only be a few guys, but it may be more - and it may be some that we like and have enjoyed watching. I hope all of them find great new situations that fit their skills and talents best. I'll be rooting for them.

My guess is the immediate impact for next year will the be the portal. Meaning outside of potentially retaining prep kids already signed not sure how many top 100 kids he will have a chance to recruit, Many are already committed and signed.

But as we see with PC kids some have re-opened because of coaching changes so there is that opportunity of flipping kids who re-opened.

2024 and 2025 I think he will be really focused on prep ranks.

Good points.

But to be fair, it is much less expensive to divorce from a recruit than a spouse. They do not have no fault alimony yet tied into bond of recruitment. 😉

Agree with this. Remember Lavin made a big splash with that first full recruiting class, but by the time he was hired he only had enough time to grab Polee for the upcoming season.

I think it’s a fair point but I’m not sure it’s about five star players as much as it’s about recruiting the right kind of players to fit Pitino’s culture and playing style. The current team as constructed was poorly balanced and it appears there were issues with culture

I agree we shouldn’t have posters on here celebrating dropping guys who gave a lot to this team over the past three season, Posh and Wusu specifically.

However, I can’t take any issue with Rick want 6-8 new guys in here based on his comments yesterday. It sounds like he got a debrief from Van Macon and he was brutally honest that a lot of the guys quit on the coach and team, had bad attitudes and were not committed to putting the effort in that is required for a successful D1 program. If they acted like that because they knew MA was out, they unfortunately have to pay the piper now that Pitino is here. I will continue to root for our guys wherever they end up, but I think a clean slate makes sense to start off this new regime.
