Happy Rick Pitino Day! Press Conference Commentary Only

If I had to guess Posh/Storr/Wusu/Soriano. I think Gardner comes and maybe one of the other two recruits. That's six. I didn't see enough of King but if coach thinks he's a good fit I'm for him staying too. Everyone else is gone.
 
I had a huge smile on my face at the end of the press conference
After decades of frustration, we finally got the right guy at the helm
As a two time St John's grad and a fan of the program for almost 60 years, this is one of the happiest days of my life!!
Go get 'em, Rick!!!
 
Amazing presser - so excited. You can tell how proud and excited he is to really be part of St. John's and to lead us back.

While I agree he is clearly getting rid of most of our roster, I think the severity of his words may be intended to be a challenge to certain extremely talented players to their love and passion, in the hope they will commit themselves and play, rather than just unnecessarily "trashing" people who he plans to move on from. I'm sure the hope is more than just Soriano from the current roster remain and, if not, then let's go with Soriano and 11 new players who love the game and hard work as much as Coach does!
 
Love the blunt transparency... something that has been lacking from our recent coaches. Refreshing to hear.

I don't take anything he said as "trashing" the guys he won't keep. He has a particular requirement of a player- that is all.

There are thousands of players who haven't played for Rick- that have gone on to have successful careers.

We are lucky to have someone now at the helm who knows how to structure a "Team"...
 
Posh might make the cut because of his defense and overall drive. Not sure about Jones and Storr, I know we all like their natural talent, but would Rick have recruited either of them? No way Gardner, and unlikely for Wusu
 
Pitino will make us a winner! He’s correct this roster is not good enough to win and needs major changes. He will keep the guys he thinks are worthwhile and replace the rest with more talented better shooting players. I think besides Soriano he will keep Storr, Posh, and Jones for sure Gardner and possibly our other 2 recruits and we will see what he does from there.
 
Masterclass right there. ID’s the alpha and makes him the Captain. Puts the remaining players on notice re: expectations. Speaks on the history of the program and ties personal stories into it. Exudes confidence/cockiness and dares people to bet against him

Whatever word is stronger than fired up. That’s me right now

Posh was physically in the room and Pitino never mentioned him, while name checking Soriano like 8 times. What's that tell ya?
 
If immediate transfers are no longer available except for grad transfers, where is Rick going to get 6 to 8 players who can play immediately?

It tells me that he either 1) hasnt actually spoken with Posh yet or 2) Posh hasnt committed to Rick's vision yet. In either case, it's clear to Posh what he needs to do if he wants to play for St. John's next year.
