Guess this will be dominant soccer topic for the next month. I am not that set on a winter World Cup, especially having in played in non soccer location that Bought the tournament.

My friends in Europe are really pissed about the location. No alcohol except limited times and locations is the big one. The Brits will have to be mostly sober or be in jail, maybe not a bad thing...

The choice of Qatas was ridiculous but FIFA. Sorry for the fans but still looking forward to the games. Nice that US got late game for all three during pool play. Thanksgiving Friday brunch for friends might be in the offing.

Yea this not being in the summer is very weird and feels off but I gotta say Giants v Cowboys on thanksgiving right into USA v England on black Friday is a hell of a sports slate.

Not to mention a week from today USA v Wales and then SJU v Temple a little later. A lot of stuff to watch

I don't follow soccer at all, but binged the "FIFA Uncovered" documentary series on Netflix over the weekend.

They did a fantastic job explaining a complicated web of international corruption, bribery, money laundering that spanned decades up to and including Qatar.

I had no interest in soccer before watching Ted Lasso. I now understand and appreciate the sport a lot more.

Also found “Welcome to Wrexham” interesting and entertaining. Shows how important soccer teams are to communities.

The rich get much, much, much richer. And when there are rules and regulations, the rich find multiple ways to bend and evade them, and the parent leagues or FIFA cry out in righteous indignation and in a little while things resume as normal.

This will go down as the most corrupt WC in history (by miles), and that is quite an accomplishment.
The money was exchanged in suitcases (instead of “just” envelopes as in that past) to cover up the human rights abuses and the cheap labor imported from around the world to build these stadiums (which thousands of the workers died).
My view is that teams will of course try to win. But if one of the favorites falters in the opening group match, I can see them mailing it in the rest of the way.
Also, owners of the big European clubs will be watching closely as their season is being thrown into chaos over this WC schedule.

Wales stepping up in 2nd half as experience is showing. US kids are over aggressive with 3 yellows and giving Bale a penalty kick

we were lucky not to lose that one... USA reminded me of how the Jets played in the second half... seemed to take the foot off the gas.

that foul by Acosta at the end on Bale might have saved the game for us with Turner caught out of the box like that... no doubt in my mind Bale would have put that one home had he gotten his leg on that. Game saving foul by Acosta

Turner had to come out for that. One of the man bun CBs was caught.

What do the results mean?
Would have taken the point pre-game but honestly, after the 1st 45 minutes, felt a little like we lost 2.

Not the end of the world. A point against England would be great but we’re still alive and relatively well. Hope that Wales doesn’t score many goals against Iran.

Reyna said he was 100%. Berhalter claimed that he didn't want to risk an injury. Let's see what happens Friday. Maybe England has a let down after smashing Iran.
