Around the Big East 25-26

Creighton, our #3 team, down by 31.

I've been pretty optimistic about the Big East since realignment, but this has been an awful start. Some terrible losses to bad teams, and what's worse is we're 1-5 against Power teams. Plenty of time to improve obviously, but yikes.

From selfish perspective, I love BE battles v solid teams, not only at raucous MSG but road games at places like PC, Creighton, Xavier, M’Q & UConn.

Every League has bottom feeders but this season you have dreadful last 4 and some historically solid programs like M’Q and X retooling. I expect great games w UConn, PC, Creighton, GT etc., but I see a lot of meh BE teams below the norm.

Beating them may not move the Dance seeding needle and from fan perspective a number of less than competitive games. I guess our BE title hopes are high since only UConn is standing in the way, but not happy with the League overall. As UConn’s football program is better, the thought of losing them to ACC is concerning. Oh well on to a great year.

Didn't this happen early last year too? The sky was falling with some of the 'better' clubs?

Last year there were some very surprising early losses to bad teams, particularly by Villanova and Seton Hall (didn't know how terrible they were yet). However, the BE started 5-2 against Power teams (as opposed to 1-5 now).

Sky isn't falling yet, but this is definitely the worst start to a season for the realignment Big East.

Agree.

Off the top of my head, I remember Marquette beating Purdue and Creighton beating Kansas.

Very different dynamic last year. The middle looked awful, with Villanova, Georgetown, Seton Hall, Butler, and Providence losing to mid-majors. DePaul looked better than the past, which wasn’t a compliment.

This year. UConn and us are the only two teams that look top 25 worthy. Georgetown looks like, maybe an interesting bubble team or better. Mack impressed me, he clearly put on 10-12lbs and won’t be easy to push off. Edit to include: Caught some of Nova-BYU and think they will have a very high floor due to Willard. They won’t free fall.

I haven’t watched Providence or Marquette yet.

I watched first half of Creighton-Gonzaga. Creighton just isn’t that good, pretty slow, and Freeman is nowhere close to a replacement, or what they need, of Kalk. If it wasn’t for a first half free throw disparity, they would’ve been down much bigger.

Yeah losing Kalk and their pesky, annoying PG is not easily absorbed. McD, a super HC, will make the best of it and they certainly can overachieve. From small sample last night though, I think is likely a transitional year for them.

I didn't see the game, so feel free to disregard this, but my guess is that Creighton will improve steadily this season and be a tough team to beat in February. McDermott is too good of a coach.

DePaul WOOF

Creighton getting run out the gym by Gonzaga is very concerning. Losing to them is fine, but being non competitive in the 2nd half was not supposed to happen. Not good

I think the expectations that Creighton was going to be top 25 this year was always a little ambitious. Kalk, Neal and that leperchuan kid who I can't remember his name were all such massive pieces of the team, with Kalk being a legend in that program for years. Given the guys they added I think it is a lot to ask that they are a force this year. See them as more of a bubble team. Big east looks very lame this year

Friday night will be interesting with Iowa - Xavier, Providence- Colorado and Northwestern - Depaul

I agree... well-coached teams get better throughout the season... but... we need for some teams to win games in the OOC for their BE Wins to mean something... including us.

Of the teams I've watched- seen enough of X to say - they are bad, like bad bad. Seton Hall hasnt played anyone yet... maybe they can scrap out a surprise win. Need Prov to show up OOC.... Creighton doesn't seem to have the same level of talent as years past. Butler has potential to be fiesty

Looking ahead:
Friday - X vs Iowa / Northwestern v DePaul / Prov v Colorado - sadly i see 0-3
Sat - Clemson vs Gtown / Maryland v Marq / Butler v SMU / BYU v UConn - actually see 4-0 here...

We need to be BIG UConn / GTown fans the next month. UConn has a chance to be #1 after the next couple weeks... we want that.

Kalk is a once-in-a-program's history level of defender for four years. He enabled McD to get away with lower level defenders at the perimeter. This year, it's just impossible to play at a high level with. You get by those guys and you run into an offensive-first big man who can barely jump -- sort of like a Zach Randolph.

I think BE ends up getting four teams. STJ/UConn are both 1 or 2 seeds, one other team gets in as an 8, Creighton is play-in.
