Around the Big East 25-26

Wait - apparently some kid on Maryland lost his shoe and decided the best way to stop Vince was to ... throw his shoe at the ball? Anybody else see that? I saw a clip on X which was absolutely hilarious.

[In totally unrelated and off-topic hoops clips, I also saw a clip of Ausar Thompson getting into it with Jalen Duren and the only thought that went through my mind was "young man, what are you thinking? Jalen Duren will end your existence." Not the guy I would mess with.]

I saw it live and couldn't believe it was a no call. And if missed - that it isn't something that creates a technical at the next media timeout. I mean, yes, it was funny, but it's also allowed?

Breeding, so that needs to be factored in.

Say what you want about Karaban, but he’s a glue guy for Hurley.

Seton Hall up 3 on Fairfield, 8 minutes left in first half.

Interesting 'test' for Hall tn after barely scraping by St. Peter's/Wagner. Another game in 1300 seat Walsh.
Didn’t they beat St Pete’s by 30-ish? Seton Hall is by no means good but after week one, the only real disaster is X. The bottom of the big east Butler, Hall, DePaul, X (in that order) is real weak this year.

It’s better to go 3-2 out of conference vs top 40 teams, than 5-0 vs cupcakes.
Better for computer rankings.
Better prep for season & tournaments.
Fans much more excited.
Better attendance —>more ticket revenue.
And if u go 4-1 instead, 😁😁
I agree...but 10-1 going into the conference is warmer and fuzzier than 7-4. I know...I know...it's all about March.

If we go 7-4... with the way the BE is looking... we might be looking at a play-in lol

which got me thinking... what would guy rather...
-A dominant Regular Season- 27+ wins, top 3 seed - 1st/2nd round exit
-Up and Down season Sneaking into the Tourney - 10/11 seed - but make the 2nd weekend?

Take no one for granted, but playing at Cintas will likely not be one of this incredibly tough places to play this year. Frankly, the regular season title appears to be a two team race between UConn & SJU with well coached Creighton in the three slot. We’ll see if GT can be a factor too, as can PC perhaps. Net of that I see a lot of beatable teams, making the conference pretty ordinary.

But Marquette!

Agree top 2 are U Conn and SJU with Creighton in third.

After that I think maybe one of Villanova, Georgetown or Providence will turn out to be decent. My bet is Nova, they're the best coached of that bunch.

Everyone else is terrible.

Transfer point guard Silas Demary is apparently not there yet. From post game presser last night

Following No. 3 UConn’s 89-62 rout of Columbia Monday night, Hurley went on a riff about how he and Demary have a “contentious relationship” that will “grow throughout his career.”

“Our relationship will grow throughout the year, throughout his career, like it did with Tristen [Newton],” Hurley, the Jersey City native and former Seton Hall guard, told reporters of his former star point guard now playing for the Iowa Wolves in the NBA G League. “We’re in the stage of me being on his ass right now about everything, literally every possession, every decision, everything that comes out, everything he says, everything he does, his facial expressions, his body language, his decision making, his violence getting over the top of screens, his ball-screen defense, the way he leads, the way he directs.

“I mean, you know, it’s a contentious relationship, because we’re trying to mold him into a quarterback, like a real elite level quarterback, like an All-American level quarterback, one of the best point guards in the country, an NBA player, a national champion. So that process is, it’s hard to get there, but yeah, our relationship will grow throughout the year as he continues to develop, and the player that we need him to be.”

Against Columbia, the Georgia transfer had 5 points, 6 rebounds, 9 assists and one turnover.
