Alabama (MSG), Sat., Nov. 8, 12 Noon, FS-1/ 1050 AM

Best look Sanon had all day. 3 ball corner pocket. The offense will settle in but need the defense to carry us until it does. Man the garden was loud.

And look who set up the play and swung him the ball. Ayo.

Just watched this 10x with my son, forcing him to love the reaction of MSG.

Him: “yeah, it’s loud”

Me: “no, it’s not just loud, there is literally no other place in the country like it. Watch it again.”

What impressed me was the way Bama played smoothly together. We played as if we had all just met a few minutes earlier. Had Bama been playing together last season?

4 of their 5 starters were on the team last year.

The Crimson Tide are coming off a 28-9 season that gave them a No. 2 seed in the NCAA Tournament. However, they entered 2025-2026 after losing stars Mark Sears, Chris Youngblood, Grant Nelson, Clifford Omoruyi and Mouhamed Dioubate.

Oats entered the 2025-2026 season having lost seven of the 10 players who received double-digit minutes the year before. He retained star guards Aden Holloway and Latrell Wrightsell Jr., but did not add any singular player who could ease the loss of Sears, a first-team All-American.

You're not going to see many assists from Sanon. All last season he had 30. That's 1 assist per game. I suspect he'll have fewer at St. John's since he was brought in to score. Unfortunately, at 6'5 in shoes, he'll be undersized when playing the 3 but effective at the 2.........if he learns defense from Pitino. Otherwise, he's no RJ.
Not expecting many assists from him believe me. But if he can score at an efficient level and become average to above average rebounder, he can really help this team. The problem is everything you just said about Sanon could be said for Jackson. There is too much of an overlap there for guys who aren’t showing to have much positional versatility.

Lots of stuff to work on before Ole Miss.
Ole Miss? Iowa St / Baylor and hopefully Houston/Kansas... whoever in the championship game come first.

Good news is... we have a shit ton of Tape for the kids to review and WHOLE week before the next game.

my mood is starting to change... Rather have won, obviously... but Joson /Ian / Sellers now know what high-level guards look like, and we have the staff to implement the correct changes

I realized after posting that my post game brain cramp made me put Ole Miss game before the Vegas games. Chalk it up to combination of post game depression and creeping senility lol.

Every good team will learn to foul less as the season progresses. We can’t learn to be longer/more athletic or some how get a structured offense for the first time in 3 years.
Holy over-reaction Batman lol... agree we can't get "longer"... so other good teams will improve... but you dont think Rick and co can get these guys better at Offense/Defense...? i got that right? lol

Well, since they didn’t play all that well against non “high-level” guards and the only point guard the staff recruited “wouldn’t have helped” because he is “not a great defensive player” I would think the staff would have had enough insight at least start to “implement the correct changes” before the game.
Classless but interesting comment since being great is far from the necessary bar to improve on the non-existent D the three high level recruits put on display.
Anyway, hopefully that improvement happens on both sides of the ball, we shall see.

A great poet once said "Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the mouf"... well... we got punched... i trust Rick has what it takes to make the needed changes.

your "classless" observation- assume you are referring to his saying Darling isnt a great defensive play.... Rick is a savant with the mic, i believe he uses it to motivate- similar to the infamous "lateral quickness" post-game 2 years ago

We're going to have to significantly improve either our half court offense, or our transition defense.

I think we have a better shot at the latter (because of the point guard situation), but Rick can't afford to keep being so close-minded WRT playing a zone.

Frankly, he should have tried it on Saturday (although I wasn't thinking about it at the time). Would have cut-off the lanes to the hoop that Bama was getting in the second half, after they cooled down from 3.

Throwing people under the bus in public is not motivating, it is classless. If he was such a savant, he would not be doing it to the wrong guard.
