Our defense sucked their guards killed us and second chance points. That being said our defense didn’t gel till late December or January. We have talent just gotta put it together

I’m still predicting we win the big east championship and sweep UConn

Making any long term proclamations about a team two games into the season is pretty absurd. Bama style of play is very hard to prepare for and they have two of the best guards in the country. Our guards were awful in the first half but much better in the 2nd. It’ll take some more time for this team to gel but the pieces are there. If we look the same way in Vegas I would be a little more worried.
 
As I recall , we didn’t turn them over very often , if at all .
True we lost 2 early season games last year to Georgia and Baylor but , they didn’t abuse us physically .
Today , we were abused on Defense ..

So far , Sanon and Jackson don’t look like NBA players they were touted to be.

Not sure if we had gotten , either Lee or Boogie or both , whether they would have made a difference but , might have prevented the meltdown in crunch time like we had today .

I think Wilcher coukd have given us more today than Sanon or Jackson .

Jackson had a better game . At least now I see glimpses

I personally don’t think our backcourt will be good enough defensively to get to a final 4 or win a title, but agree we will Dance and could win a couple of games depending on matchups.

Hope I am wrong, but SJ invested in offense in Ian, Sanon and a hustling Sellers, but Pitino teams win w D. Yes, early, but we are yielding a lot of points and it will take a lot of improvement defensively to make me more optimistic.

Lastly, being a top 20 team is nothing to complain about. I think that is what we are with even more upside should the D click.
 
The defense the first 10 minutes was OK I think we had given up around 20 points at that stage of the game. Hard to keep an offense like that down though they move it quick and had a few dozen possessions where everyone touched it.

The 1st half guard play was non-existent. Sanon plays in 2nd gear, looks like you could chase him down from behind and pick his pocket almost every time he dribbles.

A lot of talent, a lot to work on. Safe to say we are not a top 5 team right now. These SEC teams are our kryptonite FFS!

Lee would have gotten blown by just like our current guys did.

So the difference in points would have had to have been made up in better trips on the offensive end. Which I guess a real PG would help with.
 
This loss is on Rick. First time since he’s been here. Oats outcoached him today.

Big stretch there on saying Jackson , Sanon , Sellers could outshoot Bama guards.

No indication today of that happening . And, they blew by our guards at will ,every time they wanted .

Maybe. They are both just sophomores. If they aren’t guaranteed first rounders I think at least one returns to college - here or somewhere else.
