Mount Rushmore 4 Favorite Johnnie’s

Panther , you and I go back to Sonny’s career at St John’s and it’s a pity that only us Seniors got to see him play .

As we both know , Sonny at 6’7” or 6 ‘8” and maybe 195 pounds often played against opposing Centers who were taller and heavier .
Didn’t seem to matter , Sonny was that good .

True story , I live in S Carolina , not far from
Savannah , Ga and I was working at a local Golf Club a few years ago and who shows up to play , is Cazzie Russell and 3 other guys

Of course , I knew right away it was Cazzie and he had a few minutes before his tee time .
We talked a little BB and I asked him , what he remembers about the Holiday Festival final Vs St John’s that we win 75-74.
Well , he says , smiling , St John’s got a few calls from those MSG Refs but, we couldn’t believe this skinny Kid Dove was kicking our Ass under the basket .”

Panther , I know we are about the same age or
Close but , how old were you , if you saw Dick MCGuire play ?
His College career is before my ability to recall .

Dick MCGuire had a great NBA career with the Knicks as a player , Scout , etc for a long time .

I like your Rushmore 4 .
The first time I saw Sonny Dove play was in the finals of the 1965 NIT Finals against Villanova. I was a kid from Connecticut about to enter St. John's in the Fall and I sat in awe watching him snare rebounds like a vacuum cleaner. I also remember seeing Sonny as he got to Alumni Hall early to watch the first half of the freshmen games. He was always impeccably dressed in a well pressed suit and tie. Finally, I also occasionally saw Sonny in the hallways between classes in St. John's Hall always with an entourage of friends and fans. He was a helluva ball player and personality that's why I put him on my Mt. Rushmore list.

List in reverse

Abe Keita (author)
Elijah Ingrahm (videographer)
Mike Jarvis (minister)
Marcus LoVett (loyal son)
Omar Cook (career counselor)
Nurideen Lindsey (motivational speaker)
Certainly none of my business but curious that Omar Cook would be on that list. I was not a huge fan early but it seems to me he did and is doing very well for himself.
Not that it matters what I think but I have nothing but great admiration and respect for him, albeit from very afar.
Again, not in any way shape or form criticizing your opinion, just curious.

Say what you will about LoVett but he is at least on the Mount Rushmore of my irrational hype guys due to his absolutely absurd hoop mixtape (below). I was in high school when this video became a sensation. Looking back on this video it is hilariously over the top and flashy. As a teenager it was the coolest thing ever lol.

By the time he came here it was like we had a basketball celebrity on the team. Always thought he was a pretty good player here too. But he never stayed in one place very long

Boo is a pretty smart guy but I was shocked Omar was on the list. Had a great freshman season , was a late first round pick. Realised his limitations and played 20 years in Europe and is now a coach on the Cavaliers. Seems he did pretty well for himself. To me he is a great success.
I too don’t get it.
