Based on the NY Post article I didn't get the impression that he's trying to become the top paid coach either, which is why I think the school needs to get this done if the asking price is reasonable (top 2-3 BE IMO).

Sure he does. He can retire or go to Greece. Once someone feels disrespected, all bets are off.

I mean I don't think to him "disrespected" means anything less than the highest paid in college basketball. #6 in the BE I bet he thinks is disrespectful, and as I said that could cause him to walk so they should make him top 2-3 BE ASAP. The school doesn't have unlimited funds to make him the highest paid in college basketball (without taking from other funds), they just cancelled Midnight Madness, so they have to be smart negotiating here.

I don't buy that either, though. Mike Repole loves to talk about his contributions. We have a top 10-15 NIL. This isn't a thing where we should even remotely, potentially not have enough money. Pitino is the 1/1, literally, just make the guy feel appreciated and pay what he wants.

The Midnight Madness thing really just sounded more like pathetic spin than anything else.

Maybe Pitino doesn't care about getting paid more than Hurley, but they are also blood rivals. Why wouldn't he care?

Just looking back at what his agent said:
“We approached them and tried to negotiate what we thought would be a very fair deal and it didn’t go anywhere,” his agent, Evan Daniels, told The Post. “We believe with what he’s accomplished, he should be paid among the top coaches in the country and certainly among his peers atop the Big East.

"Vey fair deal", "among his peers atop the Big East" I'm guessing is top 2-3 BE, the quotes don't give me the impression he's trying to become the top paid coach (fortunately for the school).

Respectfully, CRP holds all the leverage. He can just quit. His accomplishments are beyond question.

Who gets 5000 for a Towson exhibition? He’s driven attendance up so far beyond what I thought was possible. I would not play any games.

Regardless of whether or not he deserves to be the #1 paid coach it doesn't appear that's what his agent is asking for (above quote). I'm 100% in agreement that they should pay him ASAP if the price range his agent hinted at is accurate. I think just about all of us agree that the school needs to get this done.

Shanley, Kull, and Repole are doing to figure this out. I actually kind of like the idea of dangling the 🥕 of a new big contract after the season. I want Pitino here for a decade.

I was at groundbreaking. Great ceremony - 1st class. Congressman Meeks attended and spoke afterwards. The man knows SJU basketball and is a passionate fan. Saw Mr and Mrs fansince65, both among our best and most supportive fans.

Here's one thing I'm 100% certain of. We will put our best foot forward in securing Rick. If he wants to stay, he will be nicely rewarded with a new deal. Shanley is a big picture thinker, and he keeps saying, along with Bill J, that basketball is the front porch of our university.

I cannot express how many things are headed in an upwards trajectory - academically and otherwise. Top notch talent among the deans. New buildings and renovations planned.

If I were a betting person and I'm not. I'd put Pitino leaving at 8-1 odds. This is home, and could be the crown jewel of his brilliant career. We are back to being elevated to the status of other pro sports teams in NYC, and Pitino is the reason. Check out that the 100s at msg are just about completely sold out for season.

I may choke when the final deal is announced, but Shanley, WJ, JR, MR all know that this deal must get done. It will be.
