IMO, the last of the “NYC Point Guatds”
Johnnies in the article:

Omar Cook one of the three guards who the article is about and Anthony Glover mention.

Johnnies mentioned in the box next to the Article as 1998/99 Juniors on the rise:

Cook, Kyle Cuffe, Willie Shaw, Eric King and Ryan Williams.

Asterisk for Taliek Brown (UConn) who is also one of the three guards who the article is about and is also on the 98/99 Juniors on the rise list. He is of course one of our Assistant Coaches.

Our former guard Tristan Smith recently started a great FB page called “Long Island Basketball History.”

Someone posted this painful clip where there’s a short blurb about how “either the University of Massachusetts or St. John’s will benefit” from a certain player’s talent.

I hadn't been following him but was surprised to see what the Celtics gave up to get him. To cut him right before the season....
It was likely more of a salary dump. Sadly, a big miscalculation by RJ and his family, who could have easily made $2 million this season playing college ball. As it turns out his 2024-25 NIL deal might be as much as he will make for a while unless he catches a 2 way nba deal. Consider the Celts didn't even send him to the G league for $540K. Welcome to the real world RJ, where we all suffer the consequences of bad career decisions.

It was kind of predictable. Hopefully he has some other options (abroad) or gets picked up by another team for G League or otherwise. Some reports had him playing well pre-season, so maybe he caught someone's eye.

It’s no disgrace to not make the NBA . Most Players don’t . Really good ones too .

It’s a fact that NBAScouts favor the 1 and done College player .

Even many of those 1 st Round picks eventually fade from NBA rosters , after their initial contracts expire or , they become journeymen , moving from team to team .
Still with those $$$ involved , many become Multi Millionaires .

RJ Luis likely got less than realistic Counsel from his Advisors and / or Family to forego a big NIL payday , at a big time College Program this season .
Perhaps he could have followed Wilcher to Texas or, landed at another BE School ? BE Coaches saw enough of him this past season , to at least think about it .

Anyway , his Play here and the Honors he received , will forever be in the BE and St John’s Record books .

Good luck to him in all his future endeavors .

Unfortunately your post is 1000% correct.
Imagine SJU bringing back Zuby and RJ this year for their senior seasons ? Am i I pleased with Hopkins from the portal, you bet I am , but for the most part I love our kids ( see Grady Reynolds and Jack Wolfinger to name a few undesirables) and I am always sad to see them go. RJ should have returned to SJU for his senior season to reach greater heights than we did this past season and as Beast said to make a ton more money.
