27then. At least we stay in the actual 1st round this year. The Blue Jays, Dodgers, Mets, Phillies and Yankees exceeded the second competitive-balance tax threshold, which means their first pick will get moved down 10 spots. If, however, the Mets get a top-six pick in the lottery, they'll keep that pick and their second pick will be moved down 10 spots.
Looks like we are slated to Draft at #17. We were penalized 10 spots last year. Depends on free agency I think. Not sure if we get penalized again. Hope not. Be nice to add to an improving system.
Could always get a top six pick in the lottery and keep the slot.27then. At least we stay in the actual 1st round this year.![]()

I think in this case the use of the term “league average” is being used to compare Baty’s strikeouts as comparedNo, it’s not. There is no team with a rate as high as Baty’s 27.4%. Two teams are above 25%, 12 below 22%. Baty certainly did not come close to playing himself off being penciled into the lineup but he is still going into essentially his 3rd season as a question mark with potential as are all the Met young position players. None of them have shown anything resembling consistency. At some point occasional flashes don’t cut it.
IMO, the Mets are somewhat at a crossroads because, outside of Soto, Stearns has not added a single player you can count on for long term stability. He kind of lucked out that the young pitchers kept them in the race until the last day.
Potentially, with the loss of Alonso and Diaz, I think this a second division team. Obviously free agency could change that, trades could change that, but to go into next year depending primarily on two or three young pitchers, a couple of stable position players and young potential could be a disaster.
We shall see……….
Draft position won’t be set for awhile and will also depend on free agency and if you are over the salary threshold and if so, how many years. The Yankees got burned by all the above this past draft.Looks like we are slated to Draft at #17. We were penalized 10 spots last year. Depends on free agency I think. Not sure if we get penalized again. Hope not. Be nice to add to an improving system.
I think in this case the use of the term “league average” is being used to compare Baty’s strikeouts as compared
to other players in the league not the overall average of teams as a whole. I believe that number is or was somewhere approaching about 25% last I heard.

I'd like getting Schwarber if that is possible
Agree. I am a Met friendly Yankee fan and kind of disagree with Boone playing Rice, who is just learning the position, at first base instead of Goldy especially since Goldy hits lefties so well.I've never understood the strategy of moving a lousy infielder to 1B and assuming he'll be better there. 1B is an important position, and having a good one improves your infield temendously. We've had excellent defensive first basemen - Hernandez, Olerud, even Ike Davis was good with the glove. They save outs, runs (and pitch counts) all the time. Right now, Pete is below average. Do we actually think Vientos, who has lousy hands (and a poor arm) will be any better?
