New York Mets 2025 Season

A little off topic but just cool that we have 7 teams in AL and 8 in NL with real shot for post season in last week of the season. In AL I will be happy if either RedSox or Astros are eliminated.

I’d say let’s just try to remain positive for another week. We will have plenty of time to tear down this season if things don’t work out next week.

I also have moved on from disappointment. It will next be a 2026 Mets Season Topic.

The only thing that gives me some hope for next year is Cohen is not going to sit back and take this lost season lightly.

He does not view success anywhere near the same as Fred Wilpon’s “meaningful games in September” claptrap.

Cohen has stated that at some point the spending needs to level off and greater reliance placed on internal (minor leagues) player development. Anyone expecting big spending will be disappointed. Think all our young pitchers and kids like Benge and Williams getting a shot.

I don’t think it’s necessarily a bad thing but agree or disagree that’s where this is heading. Trades for sure but don’t look for any big money free agents.

Me? Still all in on the making the playoffs if for no other reason than to hopefully get McLean, Sproat and Tong to throw in the playoffs.
Now, should the Mets make it and Stearns and Mendoza decide to go with “experience” I will be PO’d to the max.

I am not only talking about free agents, because I agree the spending will level off a bit (especially since there is no 26 year old star hitting FA this offseason).

The young pitchers will help keep payroll level as well.

I am more taking about managers and coaches will not be in a country club. No matter how nice they are, results matter above all.

Agreed. Cohen isn’t blaming Stearns yet. However, they will need to look hard at our Manager and pitching guru very closely. You don’t spend this kind of cash and fall apart and not make the playoffs without someone taking a hit. Funny, I don’t even know who the hitting coach is but I might be looking at my lease for 2026.

That’s a good point. The young pitchers are the main reason I have kept watching.

To have three different 7-game losing streaks through the course of one season speaks to a lot of flaws. You don’t have a stopper in the rotation to get the ball and put an end to the losing. You have a lineup full of streaky players who are unplayable for sometimes month-long stretches. You trade for 3 bullpen arms and 2 of them are broken. Your CF “upgrade” looks worse than the guys manning the position before and that’s hard to do! Stearns flopped bigtime this year.

I’m not asking to reload but you have to reconfigure this roster. I’d like to see Nimmo and McNeil offloaded I don’t care if we have to eat 80% of their contracts. Get a starter who can deliver quality starts for an entire year (sad to think that’s the benchmark nowadays). Williams and/or Benge into the everyday lineup please. There’s no way Cohen takes this lying down. Guy predicted a WS within 5 years and hates the egg currently smeared over his face.

Nimmo & McNeil were not the worst problems. both had .755 ish OPS. CF & collapsed starters were bigger problems. Resign Pete if reasonable, one #3 pitcher, keep nimmo & McNeil, promote beige and or Williams if good spring training

There should be money to spend besides resigning Pete. There’s 35++ mil of contracts coming off the books.
Marte 20
Winkler 7.5
Blackburn 4
Canning. 4
And no big arbitration raises due.
Peterson killed 5+ mil off of what he might have gotten with his las 2 months

Dylan Cease makes a ton of sense for this fragile group if the price is right. The guy is a true ironman in an era of extreme fragility. He takes the place of 2-3 Blackburn types.

You are assuming he wants to stay at that level. He does not. At least that is what he has said publicly.

The Mets drew 600,000 more fans this year. In the event they don’t make the playoffs those fans may be lost next season. I would be shocked if payroll is reduced.

The Mets final six games and they are now chasing Cincinnati because they own the tie break.

Whatever remains of my big dumb optimistic streak (strange I even have one) is telling me the pressure is now on Cincinnati and they will slip up just enough for the Mets to squeak in the playoffs.
