2025-2026 Season

If they had no intention of redshirting Maker the fact they played him in one lousy game for a few minutes means they did the kid a tremendous disservice at least IMO. Why burn a year of the kids eligibility for a couple of minutes PT?
Seems pretty clear it was a "we were going to redshirt you and then you decided to go to DePaul"

They did it against DePaul and then he transferred there—seems like there’s something more to it unless it’s just a crazy councidence
possible theory: DePaul was tampering with Maker as implausible as that might sound as he hadn’t earned a minute of PT

Still a pretty vindictive move in my opinion. Wasn’t like we would be losing Kareem Abdul Jabbar or even LaRue Martin.
It's very vindictive and not great. There's a reason Pitino is seen as, maybe not the greatest of guys. I'm just saying, that's why they did it.

I hope it’s not true. I have a very low opinion of Pitino, but even I would have doubted he would show that level of pettiness.

I wonder why the NCAA doesn’t have a similar policy in CBB as they do in FB. Football you can play 4 games and still red shirt. So make it 10 games in CBB then there wouldn’t be this probably. No need for waiver either then. One clear rule.

Oh right it’s the NCAA they don’t do common sense or clarity.

In terms of on paper skill... I agree...

But I'm on the "Ayo plays 10-15mins/game" this year train... I think he showed a lot at the end of last season... he's a guy that knows his role and contributes efficiently...

Senior- Pitino loves him... i see more playing time than expected for Ayo

This means little coming from Marillac, but Ayo looks much better in all the clips than this time last year. Like a lot better.

Will need someone unbiased to confirm.

Hmm someone unbiased. Or maybe to counteract Marillac’s tendencies. His polar opposite

Mullins Revenge !

There are 200 minutes of playing time for 5 players at 40 minutes each in a game (barring OT).

Assumptions / total guesses:

Zuby 30 minutes
Hopkins 25
Jackson 22 minutes
Sanon 22 minutes
Mitchell 22 minutes
Darling 18 minutes
Prey 15 minutes
Sellers 15 minutes
Odih 6 minutes
Liotopoulous 6 minutes

By my math that is 181 of the available 200 minutes, which would leave 19 MPG for Ayo.

HOWEVER, if you add 3 minutes each to Hopkins, Jackson, Sanon, Mitchell, and Sellers (not crazy), the available minutes shrinks to 4.

I think Ayo will get some playing time, but if he and Liotopoulos combined get more than 10 MPG I would be surprised.

Foul trouble? Injuries? Doghouse? Tiredness from non stop defense?

Already factored in. Otherwise the minutes figures for the 5 of the 6 guys after Zuby would be higher. I'm sure there will be a game Ayo gets 10 minutes. I'm also sure there will be a bunch of games where gets between 0 and 2. Also bear in mind I gave zero minutes to about 4 other guys on the team.

Ayo is always ready to grab the minutes of anyone who starts dogging it out there. But the main problem for him is that Odih seems poised to do the same thing.

If we see the two of them out there together, it means the starters royally F'd up along the way effort wise.

I guarantee there will be some point in some game where Ayo and Odih will be out there together. Very possibly with Lefty. Happens to every team every season, coach tells the starters "your effort sucks, I'm gonna play guys who will try" and the dogs come out.

I've been looking at this for a few minutes, and I keep coming back to you have to add those 3 extra minutes to Hopkins, Jackson, Sanon, Mitchell, and Sellers. I mean, as currently allocated, Jackson would be playing less minutes than last year.

Sanon, Sellers, Mitchell, and Darling all very likely playing less minutes than last year. I bet Jackson does get more than he did at UNC but he also wasn’t transferring because of playing time.
