Sort but I just don’t see it barring multiple injuries. Jackson and Darling at the 1, Sanon, Sellers, Jackson, and Odih at the 2. Late at night and I may be missing someone else but it is just not happening. Gréât kid who we all love but very little pt for him this season.
 
Eurobasket runs through mid-September.

Rick probably knew Lefty wasn't going to make it anyway, we had enough guys for scrimmages/practices (especially at the guard (positions), and figured it could help him in the medium-term for other Greeks down the road.

Prey may have actually made the team, missed the first few weeks of practices, and then that would bring injury risk -- not to mention him as a very important big man in the rotation for the season because of the limited depth.

I expect really big things from Prey a year from now. We saw glimpses last year. This year, we'll see more of that. And next, he'll be the starting big man people sleep on nationally. He had NBA buzz entering STJ for a reason.

Agree 100% I definitely see this as an indicator that Pitino is expecting Prey to play an important role.

It is possible (and let me be clear I don't know) that given Pitino's close relationship with Greek basketball he was more willing to do an accommodation for them than he would do for Portugal basketball. If this is the case, then it has less to do with projections on playing time and is just a relationship thing.

I would think its a combination but would think since prey is set for more playing time looking at roster and based on last year it was very important he did not miss this summer. Plus sure seemed like it meant so much to lefty to be a part of that greek team.

Yeah makes sense, honestly from everything I’ve heard, Rick might believe in Lefty more then anyone else on the team

I know he’s not the type of guy that’s gonna pick and choose favorites but I’ve heard Rick’s passion to develop lefty into a Euroleague MVP level talent from multiple connections from Greece

And when talking with Imran recently, lefty wasn’t there but he mentioned him a few times, for example Rick would emphasize too all of the young guys, that the journey will be tough then he will spotlight Lefty for example and emphasize how he started with no guarantees and now earned a guaranteed role

Even took another Greek kid to walk on

I think it’s heavily impacted with his love for Greece and also lefty is super genuine, hard working and wants to get better

I remember talking with him in December when he wasn’t playing, I asked him how he’s feeling, he said he’s so happy he’s here, even though he isn’t playing, he’s getting so much better and his fuel to overtake guys in the rotation got him going last year

Didn’t have a single thought of leaving St John’s whatsoever

All due respect to that guy, but he has no clue about any of the Americans on our roster and doesn't understand the way Pitino (and New Yorkers in general) embellish.

If our season hinged on Lefty the way it does with Prey, Lefty would be here. I think it's that simple. Prey simply cannot miss another entire summer with the heavy lifting he will have to do this season. Whatever Lefty gives us this year is gravy.

I bet it was more supposed to mean that Pitino believes in Lefty more than anyone else believes in Lefty. Not Pitino believes in Lefty more than he believes in everybody else.
