Interesting

The interesting thing is South Carolina also operated at a net loss in 2025. So did Ohio State and Alabama. The more money these programs bring in, the more they spend. I don't understand it. They are just as visible as they were 40 years ago to potential students. You'd have to think alumni donations to all areas outside of athletics are down as well.

Which is why I really think he should have applied for both the VCU and New Mexico jobs. Sometimes a step back is needed to keep moving forward.
he was coming off a really poor year, to try and "Sell yourself" for a new job off a year like that isn't wise. New Mexico has been trending up thanks to Richard Pitino while Seton Hall is going the other way, hard sell given the circumstances

they are going to be one of the worst teams in D1
Maybe some of these kids surprise, especially the older more experienced players. If not, to quote the great Ivan Drago, "if they die, they die". Said it before and will say it again -- there isn't a fan base in the Big East that roots for our failure more than them.

I think NM admin would have been smart enough to realize the situation and jumped at the opportunity.

Please explain, stubborn about using the money???
It legitimately sounds insane, but when I was on the Trilly discord, all of their reliable insider people were saying that they had a competitive amount of money but he didn't want to use it. Like us, they apparently had high-major silent-ish commits from guys like Zion Stanford, Chris Bell and Naas Cunningham all ready to sign, but Sha didn't want to commit the money. Those three guys would resemble an actual Big East roster, and they all visited in early April.

Could all be BS, and its obviously counterintuitive. Only reasonable explanation I can imagine is that instead of being stubborn about value of the players, it was more about being conservative about the NIL settlement being approved since their money was dependent on it.

edit: Here's a thread from the SHU board about Cunningham going to UNLV. Someone said he was one of the promised commits at their fundraiser.
