Point Guard Depth - BE and Top 25 Teams

We played a lot of last year with Deivon hurt and Kadary not really a true Pg either. We run out offense through a lot of guys and don’t run a typical half court style. If we played like Michigan state or Wisconsin I think it would matter much more.

I trust Ricky P on this one. I see Ian being a bit more like Shamorie Ponds, who could score a ton but was a capable PG. Back then though he was our main/only real scoring option so he had to do it all. Not the case with this roster. In the case that he can’t adapt well, I think the importance of landing Darling was important. Darling could end up being a star in his own right.
Agree 100%.

Said this in another thread...part of "positionless basketball" means anyone can lead the break, anyone can start the offense, and anyone can have the ball in their hands as the shot clock winds down. This is not the "Bob Cousy setting up the offense" era of basketball. Darling has stated flat out passing is a big part of his game; if Pitino can get Jackson to be a willing passer they'll be fine.

Did you have to mention Kadary ??😉

Pitino's biggest challenge will be molding these offensive minded players into a cohesive DEFENSIVE unit.
He will run a pro type offense to get the ball to an open man....whether that be Zudy inside or anyone on the perimeter. The player(s) most capable of beating pressure defense will get to bring the ball up the most.
Forget Pitino anointing Ian the next great SJ point guard. He will have every player earn their position title.

This is definitely how I see us this season. Watched a lot of Ian Jackson. Definite let but a PG type per se. His eyes are in the basket at all times; and he’s one is the most talented guys in there country at getting there. He will never be a pure point guard but can certainly dish the ball when hr wants to. Real key is if he can shift bud focus like 10-15%. He will be trouble no matter where he is in the court though. Near unstopplable going to the hole either direction and can drill from outside as well: supreme talent.

That said we rotate the ball and I think Darling will get a lot of PG time. Might be underaged a bit even due to his level of play. We will have no shortage of basically anything this season though. Our depth, skill and athleticism will allow us to play how we want.

I still think Jackson has barely been coached and Rick P gonna turn him into a massive NBA talent once he gets honed.
