School will be officially announcing a fundraising campaign next week. Good time to do so. There is an opening cocktail reception tonight to discuss it. The targeted amount is substantial but every little bit helps.

I suspect this is in addition to the fundraising that is also in progress for the new practice facility which looks pretty impressive.

I may have to go back to work.... :)

Great kickoff tonight for the campaign. Basketball practice facility has been rolled into the campaign. Bill Janetschek had already committed $7.5 million to the campaign and added $25 million for the basketball practice facility. Jim Riley added $5 million for the same purpose. Important for you guys to know that MR is not the only supporter of St. John’s athletics and at this point not even the biggest supporter - although that could all change with one big check.

Basketball facility will cost $60 million. Thanks to Janetschek and Riley it is now mostly paid for.

Great alums doing great work!

I cannot believe I spelled a word wrong...in the thread title. Thanks to all for not noticing that.

Thank you for mentioning Bill and Jim. I try to let people know exactly what you just said as well. We have so many amazing and generous donors besides Mike. Obviously Mike is front and center and vocal, while others are far more reserve but we as a University, not just basketball program, are so fortunate. The Janetschek's, Riley's and about 25 others are so giving to the entire university and care deeply about our academic standing as well as "the front porch" of basketball. Many have been instrumental in our new medical science building getting made last year and other ventures.

You are dead on, and thank you for expanding on my post. To that extent and only singling out a couple of families among many, Peter and Peg D'Angelo became the cornerstone donors of the new St. Vincent's health center AFTER doing the same for the now second most beautiful building on campus, the D'Angelo Center. With much humility, something donors of all sizes could all use a little more of, they declined to name the building to honor their family, and instead suggested St. Vincent's Health Sciences building despite a $20 million donation, which inclydes $5 million for scholarship. Bill and Leslie Collins, on top of their many generous gifts, donated $10 million towards the school of professional studies. The list goes on and on. I struggle with making a sizeable donation that would be dwarfed by these mega gifts.

Red.fans was well represented last night. JSJ gave one of they keynote addresses.

Common thread - debt of gratitude for how St. John's changed their lives and continues to elevate students.

Correct me if I'm wrong as I heard this morning that I believe the D'Angelo's made a very large donation towards the new campaign, I believe $20 million

So amazing. Bill and his wife have been beyond generous to St. John's forever, this is another level!

We are very fortunate. Coach Pitino's statement is very true, this is one of those donations that will impact the lives of thousands of students over the next few decades

Incredible!! Wonderful to see!! A point to be made thoigh, is that basketball moves the needle for SJU. There are a LOT more people that care about it than many realize over the years. Now that the mom n” pop attitude has changed around our flagship sport; the support has changed as well. We don’t have football. We are a basketball school: since we committed and went “all in” so bad the support.

I hope we continue to see support building amongst old stalwarts fans and new ones. Amazing donation, including Repole’s support amongst I’m sure many unknown donors to the NIIL. Let’s Go Redmen!
