Hope not. Sproat got lit up. 2 1/3 6 ER, 1 HR. More alarmingly was 1 K and 2 BB. He’s not getting many swings and misses. Hope he’s not hurt. No word on velocity. He is sporting a 5.79 ERA. Not good.
Disappointing performance. Was hoping he’d just cruise his next 6-10 starts and get called up to be our #6 starter. Hopefully he bounces back…in the long run it’s probably much better for his career to face adversity at that level and learn to rebound.
Saw Matt Allen pitch yesterday in PSL. He's throwing hard and looks good. They are understandably taking it slow and limiting his pitch counts. He did 2 innings and threw only like 30 pitches yesterday on regular rest. What a story it would be if he could regain even 90% of the promise he once showed.
Baty optioned back to AAA. I would have sent Azocar down personally, but keeping him is definitely in line with the conventional wisdom.
Hopefully Baty works on some of those deficiencies in AAA. It's still crazy how few AAA games he's actually played. Acuna has played like 70 more AAA games than him!

I feel once Baty figures it out he’ll be here for long term. If McNeil could get right definitely a guy who could be swapped for a pitcher down the stretch.
If McNeil gets right, he's too valuable to let go unless you just want to unload that contract. The range of outcomes with that guy is as wide as anyone: batting champ and all-star on one side and DFA candidate on the other.
His defensive versatility is pretty wild, though. He's good everywhere.
Sending Baty down was not surprising. It is a numbers game, that unfortunately for Baty allows him to be demoted without going through waivers. We all know it is all part of the business.
I do not think Azocar has options. Even if he did, with Siri out, they need OF who can at least play defense.
You guys were mentioning Sproat earlier in the thread. I am not going to get upset with his slump. Prospect improvement is not linear. This is a good thing, as he now has to figure out how to deal with this and get better from it.
Plus, there is no rush because the pitching staff has been great. Manea and Montas should be back by June which will make the team’s strength, even stronger.
Long way to go, but there is a lot to feel good about.
I feel bad because Baty was showing signs of the guy we expected from the get go. If he had a few more weeks he may have made a difficult decision impossible to make.
For his sake and ours, I hope he returns and continues to rake. With his stroke, I still believe he can become an outstanding hitter at this level.
The options game is king, unfortunately. I do think we DFA Azocar at some point. Maybe let Acuna play a few weeks in center at AAA with the express guidance that he's coming back regardless of how he plays in two weeks. I'd love to see him in center... he plays a great SS and 2B and had like 31 games in center last year in AAA (going from memory).
Obviously from my posts I’m down on Baty but admit he played better recently. I still don’t see him as the future but I was the same guy pissed that Holmes got signed to be a starter. As most of us I’d suck as a gm. The difference is between me and maybe 1 I admit it
